The Union Flag mentioned in the Guardian

Spot the Irony. Many of us will remember how Moz was crucified in the press all those years ago for his use of the Union Flag. But it now seems Moz was a visionary and genius the kind of which the present Chancellor of Great Britain is only just catching up on. On the front page of the Guardian today (14th January) Gordon Brown is quoted as saying "The union flag should be a British symbol of unity around our values...and we should assert that the union flag is for tolerance and inclusion". It also mentions Brown thinks the flag needs to be recaptured from the far right. So is this evidence that was Moz years ahead of his time?

This is one thing and one thing alone, a popularity pitch by a man who would probably did up his Granny and offer her for sex if it would make him Prime Minister.

the last comment is ridiculous and harsh! the writer(scotty) is merely pointing out something that fans of music in general already know...that musicians of the likes of moz and bowie(coldplay,r.e.m & u2 of late)and others had a far reaching vision and view of the world and had the balls to say or sing about it. At the time they were berated for it but now we are seeing that they were right. the writer is not saying that the article is a direcr link to moz just that moz had the right idea years ago and now the politicians have realised the same idea!

God that time around Madstock was fucking ridiculous! I'm still not sure whether Morrissey should have any contact with the NME at the moment (but I suppose it has the promotional value which is needed). They were so fucking nasty to him at that time.
There's SO many groups/artists who use the union jack: The Ordinary boys, The Jam, Spice Girls (my favourite group ever by the way), Oasis, etc.
Morrissey paid a BIG price for that flag-thing and for WHAT??
British music press can be so fucking evil.

Agreed -- England for the English. It is too late for the United States, which was a mishmash to begin with, but it's not too late for old England. Minorities and diversity (lowercase "d") are fine, but keep the numbers in check, and cut down immigration.

Let's hope Stephen Harper reclaims Canada for the Conservatives, and that the Tories' David Cameron dumps the vile Gordon Brown.

Please give us a line-by-line analysis of how the song National Front Disco is a song that supports the National Front and isn't simply a song about a kid that gets caught up in the NR. Here are the lyrics to make it easier for you:

          David, the wind blows
          The wind blows ...
          Bits of your life away
          Your friends all say ...
"Where is our boy ? Oh, we've lost our boy"
          But they should know
          Where you've gone
Because again and again you've explained that
          You're going to ...

          Oh, you're going to ...
          Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
          England for the English !
          England for the English !

          David, the winds blow
          The winds blow ...
          All of my dreams away
          And I still say :
"Where is our boy ? Ah, we've lost our boy"
          But I should know
          Why you've gone
Because again and again you've explained
          You've gone to the ...

          National, ah ...
          To the National ..
          There's a country; you don't live there
But one day you would like to
And if you show them what you're made of
Oh, then you might do ...

          But David, we wonder
          We wonder if the thunder
          Is ever really gonna begin
          Begin, begin
          Your mum says :
          "I've lost my boy"
          But she should know
          Why you've gone
Because again and again you've explained
          You've gone to the :

          National
          To the National
          To the National Front Disco
Because you want the day to come sooner
You want the day to come sooner
You want the day to come sooner
          When you've settled the score

          Oh, the National
          Oh, the National
          Oh, the National
          Oh, the National
          Oh, the National
