Heaven knows, we'll be miserable at the World Cup - The Guardian

Look, I'm not saying England won't win the World Cup next year. And I'm not saying don't get excited. It's just that I'm sick of the country turning into one massive Morrissey record when we inevitably go out. Let's all just take a step back and calm down a little bit. It's not for another six months and a lot of things could happen to Wayne Rooney's metatarsal between now and then.

there's also a Robert Smith reference in there for anyone who cares...

Moz for England! (Score:0)
Haha, I'd love to know who wrote that! Yes, that's England's fans for you, frothing at the mouth months in advance (England expects and all that), only for their hopes and dreams to be dashed every four years, mainly due to the fact that England usually find a way to blow it in the big matches.
Moz is an apt reference to the general doom and gloom following England's inevitable demise. If they don't win it next year in Germany, they'll just have to find a new coach and aim for 2010. Which means they'll end up doing what hundreds of other countries are doing right now, and a couple dozen more will do after next July.
It's more shocking than anything to see someone in the Brit press write that. Usually they're the ones building up their side, just so they can knock them all down again. Good luck to the Lions, but I don't see them getting Jules' trophy next summer.

How funny it is (Score:2, Interesting)
that Morrissey's name is still the byword in England for misery, moaning and failed hopes - it is quite a grudging sign of respect.

I wonder how the man feels about the fact that this is shaping up to be his legacy. Given his tremendous sense of humor, he must get a giggle out of it. Maybe I'll go over to that other site and ask him...

The Guardian have done what I SPECIFICALLY warned them against some months back, and recycled yet another arse-rendingly lame semi-reference to Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now to make an "amusing" headline. The fact that the article isn't even about Morrissey makes this less, not more acceptable.

    It's WAR.

George Best has passed away. A keeper of dreams, a beautiful lightfoot, a sporting legend, a wounded warrior. RIP.
