It sounds unlikely, but rumours are currently circulating that The Smiths may reunite for a special charity gig organised by ex-Smiths bass player, Andy Rourke.

...This comes at a time when Morrissey fansites are hitting melting point over reports that the man himself was recently spotted dining with former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr. A reunion may still seem unlikely, but never say never all you miserablists…

(davidt): This was clearly stated as a likely hoax and the person who submitted it to various sites even admitted it, so I don't think 'fansites are hitting melting point' is accurate.

uh...yah, I think there might be some things that probably need resolving as well. Like how you and Joyce slapped that lawsuit on him and Johnny.

Look, I don't know who was right and who was wrong in that case, I wasn't in the garage back in '82 when these guys decided how the percentages were going to be split.

But I do know this: Rourke might be understating this one just a bit by saying "there's a few things that probably need resolving". Yeah, they probably do.

"Hitting melting point"? (Score:1)

That is one piece of lousy journalism. The only people likely to hit melting point over yet another completely unfounded Morrissey/Marr rumour are the ignorant journalists - of which he seems like a prime example.

What would it take to reform The Smiths?

You spoke to Johnny Marr over the summer. Was that a pleasant experience?

"Great. But I think he has no will to do it, as I don't, because everything that needed to be said and done has been said and done. So what would be the point?"

I agree, really.

"Well, does somebody not agree?"

You must get enormous financial inducements.

"I've never had a remote financial inducement. No-one's offered me a pound to reform The Smiths, imagining it's within my control anyway. But if anybody knows the history of the court case and all that, they would never raise the question."

As long as 13 years ago, Johnny said that if you reformed it would be as Morrissey & Marr.

"As in Simon & Garfunkel. As in Sonny & Cher."
