David Walliams and Lee Mack on Morrissey

David Walliams (one half of massively popular UK comedy sketch show 'Little Britain') and Lee Mack (rising stand-up comedian/new host to They Think It's All Over) have recently given their views on Moz...

David Walliams (in this week's NME) was asked 'Did any musicians inspire you?'
"Morrissey, definitely. As a lyricist he had an incredible use of words. His reference points are interesting as well. He's creating poetry out of the everyday. Thet's the greatest achievement from Morrissey or Philip Larkin. They're not singing about the ocean or the moon-it's about where they live."

Lee Mack (in Metro, admittedly a while back)
"I'm a big fan of Morrissey from the Smiths days and I think he's growing up quite gracefully. 'The First of the Gang' has got some great lyrics in it like 'You have never been in love, until you've seen the dawn rise, behind the home for the blind'. But the main reason I listen to it is to get me in the mood for a gig when I need some energy. I put this on and just jump around."

- Sometimes, if they listen properly, and Williams and Mack come across as real fans who have found out for themselves how inaccurate the crumby press stereotype of miserabilism is as applied to Morrissey's music. What a refreshing find!

Hello goinghome... I quite liked Little Britian when it started showing here on BBC America. David's role as "Lou" is hilarious and much the same goes for his character as the Prime Minister's pining assistant. I find it interesting to hear stories about how The Smiths/Morrissey have touch the lives of fellow Englishmen - especially those in the entertainment business.

I would also say to you that most stereotypes have some factual basis. Though the press really loved to hype all the melancholy surrounding Morrissey's music, it is/was no accident that most of we miserabilist were attracted to it for that reason. In a strange juxtaposition of emotions, I found it quite comforting to hear words/music that came from a person/people that were suffering on some level such as myself.

To fancy David Walliams? It must be the excessively camp demeanour. Now I find out he has a good taste in music, I like him even more.
Moz aside, I have a thing for weird looking men.
