Send Morrissey a personal video message!
You can actually record a personal message to Morrissey at PETA’s gala, ‘cause he’s earning their top honor. Check out this link for info on how to get your message to Morrissey and info on all of the stuff he’s done for PETA.

1985: Morrissey is interviewed by PETA’s Dan Mathews.
2002: Morrissey calls for a boycott of Thailand until the Thai government enacts laws to prohibit the cruel treatment, confinement, and training of elephants and bans the use of elephants for commercial or entertainment purposes.
2002: Morrissey lends his support to PETA and is interviewed a second time by PETA’s Dan Mathews.
2004: Morrissey speaks out against Iams’ cruel tests on cats and dogs.
2005: Morrissey includes PETA’s investigative documentary “Meet Your Meat” on his Who Put the “M” in Manchester? DVD.

this meager set of highlights makes it look pretty easy to get your hands on a Macca award. Moz and PETA would be better represented by a short paragraph summarizing Morrissey's continued appeal for vegetarianism and how he has changed the path of many former carnivores rather than try to find highlights that make it seem like hes simply gone through vegetarian phases in his life in 85 and and between 2002-05.

If he cares about cats and dogs, certainly he should say something about the cats and dogs PETA has killed and chucked into dumpsters after falsely promising to try and find them homes.

Morrissey deserves every bit of credit when it comes to his unrelenting support for animal rights. "Meat is Murder" was just about the boldest musical/political statement made at a time when there was a lot of competition for that honor. I just got through talking to a college freshman who has the album cover pasted all over her jacket, and who, twenty years later, is taking the message to heart. You can criticize Moz for not being "pure" enough (although "It is hard to be ethical about shoes" is pretty funny), but you must be petty indeed if you feel the need to actually attack someone for doing good in this wicked world. To be fair, it does seem that PETA is a bit of a luvvie organisation, only open to joe public if he / she has the cash, but charities are all about money too ... that's capitalism folks. And what should we care if someone is able to go to this thing and tape a message to Moz? It's not as if he's going to see their video and fall in love with them on the spot; he'll think it's a nice gesture (or in some cases a rather scary one) and then he'll get on with being the same Morrissey we've always known.
It seems that every time some lucky bugger wanders into the celebrity orbit all hell breaks loose amongst 'ordinary' people; but we all know that, if we had the money, we'd move heaven and earth to bring ourselves to the attention of our idol.

When the cause is a real one, then all the glamour around it will feel true to me. I don't mind if Morrissey gets a video for two thousand each, it is really worth the cause. Animals teach us about innocence, and they are very important for the ecossystem as well. Some psychiatric clinics use them as part of patients treatment, because they help brining down their levels of anxiety and of agressiveness. I have been a vegeterian for nearly 8 years now, and the results of my blood work are always normal, although many rabid meat eaters in my family are still dying for me to get anemia for me to prove them right.

I bumped into a PETA stand in Boston's Downtown Crossing a couple of weeks ago, and I told the guy that was distributing brochures I was thrilled to see him there, because it was actually the first time I have seen PETA around here! Gladly, it is expanding. And the more money they get the more they will expand. If they, or Moz, were only after money, the meat industry would be an easier way.

Because of the popularity of rodeos, Brazil has increased the consumption and exportation of meat almost twice, and that will reduce in the next few years the Amazon forest to half of its actual size.

I urge people to "indulge" PETA, do whatever they can to help, because eating meat is actually not good neither for you nor for the poor animal who got killed unecessarily. Meat has toxins, and a type of fiber that logdes increasingly in the intestines. Ask any gastro doctor...

If people who saw the 'Meet Your Meat'video in Moz's last video find it gory, it's because killing this way IS gory. It is probably a very necessary evil to watch, because I don't believe any resemblance with reality was just a mere coincidence.

For this video alone, and the shock it brings, and his contribution with PETA, Morrissey deserves the gala.

But Moz is surpassing my capacity to grasp them all! He's an absent presence, an intimate stranger, a veggie vampire, a truthful lier, a spiritual moper, etc... I never worshipped anyone before, so I guess this is a new feeling for me, and I sometimes see it as social evil, some evils being necessary. It fills a void, but only platonically. Moz has a legion of platonic lovers dragging after him, yet he's still so lonely, isn't that a paradox? Worship is the first step towards self-discovery; young children worship their parents; their personalities is allowed by worship to form its first, rough draft. But then there has to be the second step, finding your own voice, within you, so the worshiper is a friend, and not a God you must be a pale image of. Moz will make a lot of people travel hundreds of miles of artistic pilgrimage before they can be able to level up to what he's done; but I think this is what this initially wayward obssession with him has to offer. Sadly, though, not everybody can understand the roots of this feeling, and they follow him around like a shadow (sorry, Julia). But what would I do if I lived near him? I would probably take hitchiking lessons to learn how to climb over his windows! (no, I'm kidding).

Well, sorry, I made another philosophical burrito here, but you don't have to keep up with me if you don't want to. It's my nature, that's all...

I am on myspace, a few of you already know this. You have noticed my comments about PETA on there, I am sure, and a lot of people have differing opinions about PETA on Morrissey-solo, so I thought I'd say a few things.

Sorry to bore you with history of my life, but without a little background, you are going to be very confused. I've always had health problems..from puberty until I was about 25, I was overweight. My friend, who was also 25, died of a heart attack. She was heavier than I was, but I thought if I didn't get the weight off, "This could be me!".

So, after about a year, I got the weight off. I didn't eat hamburger meat, but I ate chicken, bologna, hot dogs, etc. I foolishly thought that cows were the only ones that were truly suffering after Meat is Murder came out, so I only cut out hamburger meat out of my carnivore diet. Yes, I know this was a very ridiculous notion!

I still had problems with high blood pressure, and I continued to have anxiety attacks(these started when I was 19, seemingly out of nowhere).
However, the doctor that I went to at the time just said, "well, if you lose five more pounds, you won't have any more problems with this".

Not only did I lose 5 more pounds, I lost a lot more. By this time, I was 27. I had cut out every kind of meat except chicken, but I also had a LOT of dairy. I found that the dairy eased my hunger pangs and helped me lose more and more weight.

I was tired all the time, though, and kept having anxiety attacks(the blood pressure had dropped though, it REALLY sounds worth it, no?) I just thought it was the stress of not knowing what to do with my life(I'd just gone back to school).

I was too tired to do anything socially, and the panic attacks had made me drop out of school. By this time, I was 29, and I had finally found a relationship that had the potential to last more than 3 months. However, who could enjoy it, feeling like crap all the time?

I was sleeping more and more, still too thin, and all kinds of tests were run. My doctor said that they could not find anything wrong with me! It was soo frustrating! Then, by the time I hit 30, it all hit the fan.

I got a pressure sore that was like the one that killed Christopher Reeve not too long ago. Now was the time for the protein talk, since the meat that I was eating was chicken! My doctor sent me to a specialist, who then sent me to 3 more..to sort of wrap up this story, they all told me to eat more meat! They liked it that I was having a lot of dairy, they said that was healthy, but I needed more meat! This was told to me after a YEAR AND A HALF of seeing specialists and getting treatments!

I listened to the doctors, ate 50% meat, 40% dairy, and 10% vegetables. I got worse after this..over ANOTHER year later, I went to another doctor, who told me that I HAD to have surgery to try to close this up..it was experimental surgery, I was going to have to go to another state, and stay in a hospital and do nothing but lay for 2 MONTHS! I had been laying down at home, like they had advised me to do, 98% of the time. My life was awful. I had no life. I was running out of options.

I'd just missed the Morrissey concert that I wanted to attend, because I couldn't even get out of bed at the time. One night, I just decided to click on the goveg.com link that was on the back of the CD.
