Morrissey featured rather heavily towards the end of BBC 4 documentary "Inky Fingers : The NME Story". It mentioned how Morrissey was the magazine's biggest selling point, and their stance on the Finsbury Park incident. It also featured TOTP performances of "Everyday Is Like Sunday" & "First Of The Gang To Die".

Morrissey features heavily towards the end of this excellent documentary on BBC4 currently showing.. including a vintage TOTP Everyday Is Like Sunday, worth seeing for Morrissey's outstanding hair! A young Morrissey's letters to the NME are also discussed.

Inky Fingers: The NME Story - BBC4
NME is the oldest music magazine in the world and this August it publishes its 3,000th issue. To celebrate, journalists, editors and musicians look back at the personalities, feuds and drugs that helped create a magazine that reflected and shaped our musical culture.

With contributions from Chrissie Hynde, The Kaiser Chiefs, Nick Kent, Charles Shaar Murray, Tony Parsons, Paul Morley, Danny Baker and Steve Lamacq.

Contains some strong language.

No Lene Lovich then! (Score:1)
How come Lovely Lene is never mentioned in any of these nostalgia puffs. To my ears there is a lot of Lene in much of the output of Kaiser Chiefs. It's about time she got her due.

She wasn't just a pair of plaits!

What absolutely foul personages are featured in this. I shall try my best to miss it!

The Kaiser Chiefs are about as melodic as falling down the stairs with saucepan on your head. I can't imagine what they could possibly say that's of any remote use to anyone anywhere.

Nick Kent is a wicked, surreptious hack. Nothing more needs to be said on this topic.

Paul Morley, whilst not overly annoying, seems to be on every show like this under the sun so I pray someone gaffer-tapes his mouth shut before long.

Tony Parsons is the definition of irrelevance.

Still, I will watch it, duty-bound as always to Steven. I'll just plug up my ears with putty and hum when the bores are on.

It was interesting (and painful) to actually hear Andrew Collins (whom I kinda, in general) and the then editor, admit to the deliberate slaughter of Mozz over the Finsbury Park incident: how after milking everything relating to Morrissey and selling loads thanks to him, they questioned his integrity, etc, commenting that (regretably) it was like killing your own dad, and no-one would do that nowadays. Perharps "sorry", then?

This was followed by the current editor saying how they'd got in touch again, after 12 years, as they thought it was time Mozz should be "closer" to his fans, with the album/comeback, and everything. We know the rest.

we've rehearsed nme's disgraceful bogus outrage over moz's finsbury park show many times. i say let collins, maconie etc agonise till further notice. it was a shitty trick to pull on their number one cover star, and a vintage piece of low 'journalism'.

it's ironic to notice zero press outrage at primal scream's pathetic attempts at controversy (nazi salutes at glastonbury) or pete doherty's hopeless ss-cap + union jack act at live 8.

yes, nme - now more than ever the corporate advertorial sheet - held out the glove again last year for moz to sniff. he sold a load of records, they got some over-30's back for a couple of issues. if he couldn't hold out against them, no-one can. the evil people prosper over the likes of you and me always
