"Is It Really So Strange?" screening in Oakland, CA (June 22)

The Parkway will be screening "Is It Really So Strange?," as part of the Frameline LGBT Film Festival. In case you haven't heard of it, it's a documentary about el Senor Morrissey's Latino fan base in Southern California, and their assorted intense reactions to his music and personality.

The Parkway is a lovely institution full of cozy couches, with an array of beers on tap. This event should attract an even more boisterously enthusiastic mob than usual. Oakland seems like an excellent place to see this film, since it is probably the closest thing to a cross between Manchester and L.A. that one could care to imagine.

oakland and manchester? (Score:0)

I beg to differ with you on this - oakland is MUCH different from manchester. Oakland is dangerous and, well, dark; manchester is not. Hollywood/LA is like one big Disneyworld compared to both, though. Oakland is much more dangerous and scary than, hopefully, manchester will ever be.

I would recommend this film - see it if you can (Score:0)

I saw this film at the National Film Theatre in London recently and I enjoyed it. It's an unsophisticated documentary about Morrissey fans and is quite entertaining. There are some funny anecdotes about fans meeting Moz. My favourite was the story of a young couple with a little kid who drove up to west Hollywood to see Moz. He comes out of his house and they go over to him, tell them they are fans etc. Moz notices they have a young child in the car so they take their little boy out of the car (he's about 3 years old) and the kid says "Mommy, Daddy - it's Morrissey!" and apparently Moz is horrified and shocked that this tiny toddler knows who he is!! If you are a Morrissey fan it should entertain you for an hour or two and although it is made by a gay fan and many of the people he interviews are Hispanic you don't need to be gay or Hispanic to enjoy it - you just need to like Morrissey.

San Francisco screening date correction to 6/23 (Score:1)

The date for this has been confirmed to be Thursday, 6/23 and not on Saturday as I originally submitted. It is still at the Victoria Theatre. Sorry for any confusion in making plans.

One documentary containing Morrissey and his fans two days in a row. A treat for the Bay Area! Thanks to Mod Lang Records and Frameline.org
