I've just come back from the Travis gig at the UEA Norwich which they announced just this week as a warm up for the Isle Of Wight festival as Moz pulled out. Towards the end of their set, they said that they received a call on Friday to say Morrissey had pulled out of the IOW festival and were asked to headline (at which point Fran the lead singer done a very amusing impersonation of Morrissey talking to him on the phone). He then said they were going to do a cover of a Morrissey song there, and wanted to test it out. They then played the opening drum beats to Everyday Is Like Sunday and performed what was an extremely good cover of the song.

After the gig I spoke to Dougie, the guitarist and told him how good it was. He sounded relieved to receive some good feedback and told me how they were not sure whether to do it or not, and I told them they should definitely play it on Saturday because it was great. He smiled and said thanks he was pleased I enjoyed it. So I'd say its 95% certain they will do a cover of it again on Sunday. I know its no consolation if you only bought the ticket to see Moz but its better than nothing and like is said is a fantastic cover.

Best of Luck to Travis (Score:0)
They were kind of good when they were starting. Driftwood and Writing to Reach You were nice tunes. But not now. Imagine being there when they butcher "Sunday"....

yeah, cause Travis doing a Moz cover will be just like him being there!

in any case, I hope everyone who goes to IOW does indeed have a good time, despite everything.

That's a really nice thing of them to do, doesn't make up for Morrissey not being there but at least they're letting the fans that couldn't get refunds the chance to dance around to mozzer's songs in a drunken summer-frenzy.

      Top blokes.

      Isn't travis covering everyday? (Score:0)
a little like Craig David covering "imagine" or Steve Vai attempting Hendrix doing "All Along the Watchtower?"

I think there are some songs that bands shouldn't attempt to cover.

"There is a Light" by the Smiths, and "Everyday is Like Sunday" by Morrissey would be among them.

They'd have been better off picking something else, methinks.

...and yes it was a passable impression of Morrissey on the phone - Fran did that for us as well. I thought it went all right, good to hear some Moz stuff being played and everyone cheered loudly when they started. And at least he remembered the words... halfway through 'Driftwood' he forgot them and after also forgetting 'Flowers in the Window' he had to ask someone in the crowd :D

I only saw 3 others in Moz tshirts... where was everyone?? I was in black with an orange necktie and some nice Moz badges on.

Oh I can smile about it now, but at the time it was terrible
