I love the man but maybe the judge had a point when he said he was devious, truculent and unreliable! Why does he have this need to constantly pull out of shows, fall out with his record company, sabotage his success? I don't think he actually wants to be successful - he fears it I think. the "journalist" who put that together is obviously a hack. the only "new" bit of information may hav been the confirmation of Morrissey's claim that he never agreed to play IOW, confirmed by this hack's unamed source. useless.

its beside the point whether or not he ever commited to play- the point is that regradless of that fact he was being promoted as not only being on the bill, but being the headliner, for months and something shouldve come from him or his management or his label long before May30. some, if not all, parties had to hav been aware that he was not going to perform long before then and it was irresponsible of all those who knew to carry on and hav the festival sell out without making the public aware. the one party involved who was always aware of Morrissey's intentions was of course Morrissey himself and therefore that is indeed where the majority of responsibilty and blame should fall.

I know there was a story last week about this, but there was no transcript of what was said. Part of it was played on BBC6 Music Lamacq Live on Friday (archived online). Boz said:

"Well, I as far as I was concerned, he was never going to play in the first place, and it was a mistake by the management ever to say that he was. I believe, I don't know if it's fact, but Ray Davies is playing Saturday afternoon, and I'm sure I read somewhere, that he was signed to Sanctuary. I'm not 100%.
I'm going to Isle Of Wight on Saturday; even though my inital intentions were to see Morrissey, it's fine, how can I blame him? In the grand scheme of things it really is irrelevant. I love him all the same!!!!

This is clearly the fault of Sanctuary. He did not sign any contract. He is not being capricious and suddenly deciding to cancel IOW because he doesn't want to do it. Stop blaming Mozzer and look at Sancturary's record instead.

In an attempt to boost ticket sales the IOW made a dark deal with sanctuary to add morrissey as the headline act in full knowledge that he would not be attending, then replacing morrissey with the much cheaper, easily available, and frankly washed up, travis.

the IOW gains a tremendous profit and some free press. posing as the victims, breaking the hearts of those they robbed, and then throwing the entire problem on morrissey's shoulders.

Are there any true Morrissey fans left or is it all people who think this man controls everything in the universe? You could not possibly fathom the logistics of a show like this. The planning, costs, contracts, sponsorship agreements and the actual act of getting an entire band and all of their gear to a show in a quasi-remote location. Look I can understand how much fans would have been looking forward to this that had tickets as well as how much they would have been let down. What I can't see is how you won't understand that something could go wrong and that date not be able to be kept. How many thousands of shows has Morrissey showed up for and over a handful of missed or canceled shows some of these so called 'fans' are making him out to be the new Axl Rose. We have no idea what the TRUE reason is here now do we? No. We have gossip from some of those involved. Perhaps some of those also were negatively affected as well both financially and personally. Well that's life. Things DO go wrong. How pathetically fake and plastic it is to immediately dismiss the version of their idol while firmly believing gossip from a tabloidesque music magazine and some pissed off promoters.

Suck it up and thank the heavens that you can even pop a single one of his CDs into your player. This man has contributed more to music than I can fathom. Just have a look at the current CD rack at your local music store and realize just how crappy life would have been without the music of the Smiths and Morrissey.
