Excerpt:

Former Take That star Williams beat legends like Bowie into second place, followed by Morrissey, Presley, Elton John and Jimi Hendrix.

Paul Weller came seventh, beating Madonna (8th), Michael Jackson (9th) and Bob Dylan (10th).

...The survey of 5,000 people nationwide was Commissioned by Carling to celebrate Britain's live music scene.

Carling spokesman Martin Coyle said: "Rock clearly wins out in the Best Live Band of All-Time category which is mostly made up of great British bands like Queen, Radiohead and Coldplay."

I’m a massive Morrissey fan. Morrissey is my favourite artist. Let’s get that out of the way before I get grilled.

After reading yet more typical comments downgrading Robbie Williams, I feel that I have to stick up for him.

Comments such as, “damn Robbie and his nobrainer-girlfriendly music” are plainly ridiculous. Robbie Williams appeals to men as well as girls.

Let’s make a comparison between Morrissey and Williams. Both write their own lyrics, neither plays an instrument and both are hugely popular. The only difference is that Robbie Williams was in a band called “Take That”. Yes, “Take That” were a hugely irritating boy band BUT Robbie decided to leave that boy band and start his own solo career. There is NO comparison between their music.

Americans may or may not understand his music but to many English people his music is entertaining and thrilling. To criticise the British public for voting for Robbie Williams is no different to people criticising Morrissey fans for him being “miserable”.

                  Double standards? Well, yes.
