prudence never paid writes:

I know you are all aware of the upcoming conference about "The Smiths".......But this was quite unusual too see an article about Morrissey and The Smiths in Australia.....

This was Taken from "The Herald Sun" on the 30th of March 2005

"Taken Seriously"

"Their records only sold modestly, but the 1980's British rock band 'The Smiths' inspired unwavering loyalty from their fans.
Now, 18 years after they split, an entire academic conference is devoted to their music and lyrics.
The unusual honor has been organized by 'Manchester Metropolitan University' in the band's home town.
Academics from Britain, The US, Portugal, Jaain, Ireland, Norway, Turkey and Australia will present papers examining the cultural message of 'The Smith's' Music.
The group, who only released four studio albums, were chiefly known for the lyrics of singer and co-songwriter Steven Morrissey. He became infamous for penning wordy and often highly arch discourses on all manner of subjects.
Papers to be presented include one by an Irish academic on 'Subjectivity, Suicide and The Smiths'"

Just thought you would like to know what’s being written about down under....
It’s good to see them get some acknowledgment in Australia.....
Cheers!

No Australian tour! Not even a mention of the conference even being in Australia!

Does this story have anything to do with Australia, except for the fact that the Australian press are a little less backward than I usually presume?

        Ha. How bitter am I?!
