Parks helped him to create the big orchestral sound that is often set as a counterpoint to his brutally personal singing. 'My theory was,' he says, 'I have always gravitated to those chords, and it would be better to start big and to kind of sculpt down to the essence over the years than to start with the essence and then get bigger. I liked opera, I like Bjork, I was very interested in Morrissey, I had a sort of punky phase, so that all got thrown in.'

    Rufus on Moz... (Score:1)
Though brief, and seemingly positive, I was glad to see your post Torr. In another thread I wondered whether or not Rufus had ever said anything positive or negative about Moz - and now I know. I quite like Rufus's music in much the same way I like Morrissey's - they're as unique as a snowflake. Their unwillingness to put out music to appeal to the masses and forget their core audience is becoming harder and harder to come by these days with mainstream pop artists.

      Oh Rufus, Rufus... (Score:0)
Rufus sings like a drunken lush hopped up on vodka and Benadryl with a cherry Nyquil chaser. His voice reminds me of dragging one's finger on a playing record, wavering and never quite at a coherent pitch.

      Buyer's remorse? Definitely.

      It seems opportunistic.
Where were these famous fans, say, five years ago?
Why didn't they help him get a record deal then?
