Morrissey 2004 Year In Review

Think back over the past year... You Are The Quarry, Morrissey's first album release since 1997 on his new label Sanctuary (official site). Four singles from the album were released, all reaching the top 10 in the UK. Morrissey also created his own label, the resurrected Attack Records imprint, to release his own material. Other Attack releases: Nancy Sinatra, the New York Dolls, Jobriath, James Maker and Remma.

There was a tour that started in April in Las Vegas and ended in December in Dublin (coverage) including many large festivals including his own, the Meltdown festival in London (June).

Recall along the way, all the press, TV and radio. Morrissey made a lot of headlines with the comment 'Bush should have died, not Reagan' at a concert in Dublin back in June. This was also the last concert that Alain Whyte played, who left the tour due to an undisclosed illness. Jesse Tobias has since assumed lead guitaring duties after a short stint by Lil' Barrie.

2004 was Morrissey's busiest year since his first major solo tour in 1991, and also the busiest for this site. Check the news archive for full coverage. Thank you to everyone who helped contribute to it. Apart from more rumored touring and a couple live releases, I have no idea what is in store for 2005.

Along with what David said, I am also thankful that for the first time, I was able to hear Morrissey live in Dubin, the Chicago HOB show and the Maida Vale shows over the internet thanks to this site and the good folks on here who post this information.

Here's a toast to the good ones out there and here's to a spanking good New Year.

As always, thanks for bringing us the latest, warts and all. Hard to believe that Maladjusted came out soon after I started frequenting the site with no album until now! 2004 was a fantastic year in the world of Morrissey, a terrible year in the world. 2005 was a superb Moz year: the album, the singles, the b-sides, the best Moz gig ever (MEN Arena) & our two succesful Tribute Nights in Ghent, Belgium (check www.theworldwilllisten.tk for exclusive party pics, a pic of Moz holding our party poster in Paris and much much more, ...).

While my interest wanes on Morrissey and his gentle slide into mediocrity, I still love coming to this website to watch. I've been coming since probably '96 when the site was very new and it's probably the best community site I come to.

2004, for many of us, has brought back Morrissey as a prominent force in our lives though we could never say that he really strayed too far. I've spent the last week off of work, perusing my musical and literary Morrissey collection and wanted to share some commentary by Mark Simpson, the author of yet another unauthorized biography. We can think what we want of those who comment on this site, write "serious" books and articles, the critics (can't break you) and don't forget, those who create websites revolving around a man we've basically deified. At the heart of it all, we're all fans of - take your pick - the man, the lyrics, the music.
Well, Mark referenced a 1984 Top of the Pops appearance made by The Smiths in which Morrissey revealed 'Marry Me' written on his chest. Whether you are new (Welcome) or old (Of course, there you are) to the World of Morrissey, I think Mark's thoughts will resound in your heart.
"...his proposal was accepted wholeheartedly by millions, many of whom, twenty years on, still remain faithful; countless actual, living human beings have come and gone out of their lives and have been forgotten. But not Morrissey. Even those who think they're over him, who think they walked out on him or that he walked out on them years ago, know deep down, in those really squidgy bits they don't let anyone else see, that they'll never ever be rid of him. The more they ignore him, the closer he gets."

As always: thanx again for all of or fine efforts here on this great site- 2004 was a banner year for us Moz fanz- and it will be hard to follow but hey the future looks bright and the present is fantastic (considering we could all have been swept up in that horrible Tsunami) let's be thankful we are all alive and able to sit in front of our computers here right now and enjoy the little pleasures in life, like this great web community called "Morrissey-Solo.com"

Thanks david for maintaining what is still far and away the best fansite on the net. Most of us probably went to a Moz event or two this year, but this let us all be part of the whole thing.

Laugh at that expression if you want. But sometimes the shoe fits. Morrissey has betrayed nine-tenths of his aesthetic and now sings of being miserable and alone while sounding as if he's lounging on a beach blanket with a pretty boy at either side. Quarry is complacent muzak for all the 80's kids who now spend their days and nights posting FUCK YOU, YOU CUNT type messages all over this website. The middle of the road is an ugly, ugly place.
