Marr interview on Radio 4

 An anonymous person writes:

Johnny Marr was interviewed on radio4 arts show front row on Dec. 17. The questions soon turned to the Smiths, and, interestingly, he was quite cagey about a Smiths reunion. The questions were pretty standard really. It should be up at Front Row - Dec. 17, 2004. It's the second item, about 7 minutes in.

The Smiths guitarist talks to John Wilson about how he writes music, plans for a musical and writing for television. He's provided part of the soundtrack for the Christmas edition of Shameless on Channel 4.

    Drop the pointless quarrels and renuite the greatest musical partnership of the last 40 years!

    Hell, even if it's not a full reunion, it's gotta be better than the current situation, musically, for both of them!!

      Q. How about the idea of getting back in the studio with Morrissey or with all of the band and trying to do something twenty years on?

    I still think Johnny is in a leaugue of his own, despite the Healers album...
    I for one have never ruled out a Morrissey/Marr reunion and maybe now is the right time for it for both.

      It would be interesting to hear (& see) a CD with the heading "Morrissey/Marr". It would be nice to hear Morrissey writing with someone else besides Alain & Boz, too. After 13 years, their partnership is kind of stale.

      I really dont believe that Morrissey or Marr have any interest in working with the other, though. Its probably better off that way, anyway.

        ....surely? Whilst they've both done great stuff on their own,Morrissey particularly, the sum of the two is greater than individually.Its a magical partnership whether they like the fact, or each other, or not.I hope they both realise this, Morrissey playing so many Smiths songs on tour seems to, and now Johnny Marr is sounding more hopeful too.Just out of musical curiosity for both parties(fuck the commercial aspect)its got to be worth a try.

          For those who can't access it, Marr said that an opera based on the story of the Smiths as a band would be like a "horror story." He also made a wry comment about "still waiting" for his medal for breaking up the Smiths...

          His accent seems sexier than ever. Maybe he'd had a little pre-Christmas booze or something.
