I think that equating "Next time I see him I'll boob him one on his hooter" with 'threatening Morrissey with violence' is a bit extreme. The comment was seemingly made in jest.

If Morrissey did in fact snub Pete in that way, then it's pretty rude, although Morrissey is obviously a big Libertines fan and knows the damage heroin can do to a band, so I guess he has his reasons for shying away.

I don't really understand Morrissey's attack - but then he does simply speak his mind, irrespective of the consequences. One thing I don't really understand is his attack on the "tortured genius" aesthetic - let's face it, that is the very aesthetic morrissey himself pioneered in the early 80s. Perhaps there's an element of jealousy because pete's seen as being so cool?!

Or perhaps Morrissey is reacting against the hype of the NME and music press now that he's getting on and he only really has music to offer, rather than style.

Anyway, I do think the attack was slightly unfair, but amusing and typically vindictive all the same. Especially the "must commit suicide to save face" comment.

Quite frankly, Pete is nothing more than a petty criminal, incapable of expressing a view other than by smashing something, threatening violence or getting smashed. Perhaps he just wants press for babyshambles, but his pics in Q magazine (I'm in the US so I get em late) show a man not doing well. His pale face and red eyes evoke pity from all that seem him. You can take a stance such as, 'well, he is doing it to himself', or 'he is weak', but humans are fallible and Pete needs help.

Regardless of what I think of his music or what he says about morrissey, I hope he is able to save himself.

I personally think that this is the worst thing i have ever heard morrissey say. I was absolutely disgusted when I read this. Imagine you were in Pete's shoes and morrissey said this about you - how awful would this feel? He is spiralling out of control - he is extremely depressed and i dont think he needed these comments from morrissey. Having read some of the comments on these boards lately, I really do wonder if some of you actually care about people. This site is increasingly become a petty, childish forum for the socially inept.
