The rumour that Gene might be supporting Moz at Earls Court won't go away.

That's largely thanks to me keeping it alive in the, frankly, insane hope that it may happen.

Gene were very special to me & I'll miss them.

I pray to God in Heaven, Buddha, Allah and every other deity that Gene are now gone forever. A more "crushing bore" than Martin "Tonight Matthew I will be Morrissey" Rossitter I cannot imagine.

This band were dull, even by Britpop standards!

There debut album was patchy at best...with only Olympian hinting at any potential, although frankly Suede were doing those "quiet then loud then quiet again" ballads long before Tossitter ever thought of them.

The second album was more glossy than a Michael Mann thriller and was filled with every cliche possible...in order to generate interest the bands PR department circulated news stories about Martins "terrible" depression. For those "in the know" Rossitter has never had clinical depression, indeed the only mental health problem he could reasonably lay claim to is megalomania...anyone who has ever met him will testify to that.

The third album "Revelations" was worse than anyone could have imagined. It makes "Maladjusted" look like a sonic masterpiece! It's one saving grace was the, admittedly, brilliant "You'll Never Walk Again". Everything else on it was garbage...especially the hideous come-back single "As Good As It Gets" (a song so awful that it was the theme tune for Davina McCalls "sitcom" "Sams Place")

The, thankfully, final album "libertine" was again overproduced and undernourished lyrically and musically. It was, in essence, an excuse for Rossitter to put forward his side of the story concerning his messy break up from his wife. Dressing up his infidelity as "love" in at least two of the tracks. But the lowest point of this already subterranean career has to be "Somewhere in the World"...a song so trite that it makes the Cheeky Girls read like Arthur Miller.

I for one am delighted that they are gone.

Morrisseys continued support is mystifying and can only be explained by his narcissistic tendencies...he must really enjoy Rossitters "impression".

Please don't let them be the support act...it may revive a corpse that is already beginning to reek.

and a fistful of great albums.

quite sad about Gene splitting, I never saw them as Smiths impersonators, they had some beautiful tunes in their own right.
They are betetr than a lot of the indie bands doing the rounds now.
