Spin magazine interviewed Brandon Flowers of The Killers. He mentions going through Boz's bag at a hotel & finding the unfinished album of "You Are The Quarry"...

The Killers recently opened for your hero, Morrissey. Is it true that when you were a bellhop at the Gold Coast Hotel you once went through a bag of CDs belonging to a member of Morrissey’s band? Confess!
It’s true. The hotel held a lot of rockabilly conventions, and Morrissey’s guitarist, Boz Boorer, would always come. I got to know him a bit. One time he asked me to store his bags while he went to have a drink. I shouldn’t have done it, and I still feel bad, but I went through one of them. I just wanted to see what Boz was listening to. One of the CDs said “The Album,” and it had all the tracks [from You Are the Quarry] on it. I knew they were making a new record and I recognized the song titles. I called Ronnie and he was going to come and burn it because it wasn’t out for months. But I put it on the CD player at work, and it was only the music, not the vocals, so I called Ronnie back and told him not to bother.

Back in late 2002, someone associated with the band showed me some papers. This person accidentally left a list of the new songs that were being worked on with notes among the pile. Out of respect for the Moz and not wanting to get this person into trouble, I ignored it. Looking back though, I wish I'd been less polite!

The Killers are shit. They've been getting far too much unwarranted exposure in the UK, when they sound like nothing more than reheated Shed Seven. Not only do they blatantly rip-off The Smiths - their song on the NME CD "Barbarism Begins At Home", anyone? - but they also rip-off (shudder) Duran Duran. What an unholy combination. I hope Moz revokes his patronage of them, those mediocre little fanboys don't deserve it. I especially hate their cover of "Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself". Such a great song, but they ruin it and he even makes a cringeworthy attempt to ape Morrissey's vocal mannerisms. Bloody Yanks!

        Dear Brandon,

There is nothing to feel bad about. Going through other people's bags is just fine especially if you're a celebrity.

        Sincerely,

I will take you from this sickness, dinner parties and champagne. I'll hold your body and make it sing again.
