The only reason it's called "Platinum Edition" is because of a desperate push to make it a platinum album. Lets see...i already bought the jewel case version, the limited gatefold edition, and the CD/DVD edition. I'm sure many of us bought multiple versions....and US sales were still only 300K.

Time to move on, and capitalize on the momentum. Release a live DVD, an EP of new tracks..... Just some ideas

Morrissey isn't like artists like Dido or Keane who are bland enough for people to buy as presents. I'd guess most of his sales come from people buying it for themselves.

Maybe with an extra CD Sanctuary think they can persuade people to buy it as a present. Not sure how successful it will be though. Most people have a very fixed idea of whether they like him or not (although teenagers seem more openminded about him).

I'm not against a bit of speculation, I think that's part of the fun of being a fan of an artist; especially in Morrissey's case as there has been little or no new music for the past 7 years.

However, speculation isn't fun when it spills over into berating and downright slagging-off a new release that is only a rumour!

I can also understand that part of it is frustration; some fans feel that there should be more new releases (outtakes, demos, live versions etc) and I wholeheartedly agree with them. If and when this material is released I will be buying it.

This does not mean that I or any of us have to buy repackaged material we already have. If Sanctuary want to re-release "You are the Quarry" then let them - if it's good for his record label then it may also be good for Morrissey. We should remember that there are people out there who don't own every single piece of plastic that Morrissey has ever put his name to, and good luck to them in discovering his music and buying the albums and B-Side collections of the singles we already have!

In summary, let's just remember that there are more people out there than just the hardcore who have as much right to listen to Morrissey and to buy re-released records if they so wish. As other posters have said, without mainstream support it is unlikely Morrissey would've have been offered the excellent deal he seems to have with Sanctuary, and I'm pretty sure most of us are glad that he took it.
