As expected, the City Paper of Philadelphia announced its "Meet Morrissey" contest today.

The rules are astoundingly brief: just a 100-word essay explaining why "you need to meet Morrissey." (No due date even.) Sure thousands will enter, but take heart: you're competing with Philadelphians, after all.

    moz fans--a desperate, clever bunch--will most likely spam the contest's inbox with myriad entries from different email addresses; to wade through the tidal wave of pleading missives, i imagine the contest judges will search by a key word--perhaps an album title, lyric fragment or interview quote--to narrow down the selection greatly.

    Philadelphians are thick and have no sense of humor. That town's only claim to fame is Rocky, and it is just a glorified piss stop between NYC and WDC, a rest area on I-95, if you will.
