Ray Davies/Moz in Uncut

Sagely Advice writes:

In the September 2004 issue of UNCUT there is a massive Kinks feature and Chrissie Hynde (one-time partner of Kinks frontman Ray Davies) says of Ray: "He's very working class. He is the traditional English phenonmenon where all the culture comes from the working classes. He has a real love of classical music and art. The only person I've ever met who reminded me of his was Morrissey. Just their gestures, the way they walk and talk."

Also, in an interview with Ray himself, he says "Once you get withdrawn or...I don't know whether it's depression... I think when you go in that place, you know when you're getting near it again, but there's never any trick of how to stay out of it. It happens because I think most human beings are failed creatures. I knew my flaws when I was very young. I think that's probably the edge I had. I wasn't optimistic about anything. I should have joined The Smiths when I was 15".

(There's also a crappy "news" item about Moz-friend Amanda Malone singing on versions of "This Charming Man" and "Girl Afraid" with The Smiths in 1984. Just amazingly interesting. Snore. Let me queue up to get that revised version of "Songs That Saved Your Wallet").

Tis a great issue of Uncut this month indeed. Kinks article, free Motown CD. Also Jeff Buckley (who covered I Know It's Over). Not forgetting a Nancy Sinatra interview (moz is a "better hugger than Elvis"). Thought the Mandy Malone thing was funny meself. Wonder when we''ll get to hear all these rare Smiths bits? I'd LOVE to get my mitts on them...

We should all be so lucky. Wouldnt it be great to have Ray, Chrissie and Morrissey get together for a live performance.

As far as I remember according to the book "The Severed Alliance" the teenage Moz was a big fan of the Kinks. I think his sister's boyfriend or one of her teenage friends was quoted as saying so...
