does anybody know about the "censorship" of the "You Are The Quarry" album sleeve in Australia? it features a head and shoulders version of the original sleeve. In other words you don't see that Morrissey is brandishing a machine-gun.

Also here's a review of the said album from Australia's biggest free music paper, X-press:

"One of the generation's most quoted and critiqued rock stars, there is very little that is left unsaid about former Smiths frontman and pop chart heavyweight,Steven Patrick Morrissey. The Godfather of Indie has certainly had a second lease on life.First he found his way onto Australian shores to put on a show that was certainly worth the 20 year wait and now he is peddling his first release of new tunes for seven years. As is to be expected, time has seen him lose none of his wit, bitterness, black humour or sense of longing-not in song anyways. In one of his best collections of tunes in his solo career Morrissey takes a swipe at Americans, the English,Jesus, fans and himself but still manages to do so with his sense of self-depricating humour and grace. The man may structure his songs in a way to grab headlines as much as to express his sentiment, but there is no doubting he is still without many peers with his command of the English language in song.Even when pining for his homeland in Come Back To Camden,he can't help but mention "tea with the taste of the Thames" or "slate grey Victorian skies".Morrissey has lost none of his contempt for the industry that has made his name as he takes another stab at the fickle industry in You Know I Couldn't Last.More than just a nostalgia figure,Morrissey is the ultimate pop star in every sense of the word.Unfortunately he may be too grey and too intelligent to be all over the charts but You Are The Quarry shows he is no less important today than when he was in his prime" CHRIS HAVERCROFT.

Is it really censorship? I bought my album here in Australia rather than getting it imported a week earlier and true the front cover only shows his face, but on the very first page of the booklet it has the picture with the machine gun, so it's not like it's been taken out.

sadness that they didn't mention even a rumour of another tour down here, I think it's time to start a petition!

it's known as the "clean" version, so that is can be displayed in US supermarkets. Not sure why Australia has the clean version though.

There's apparently an article about Moz in street magazine, Lucky. I'll be on the lookout to post article here asap.

Honestly, I don't know how Australian street press are getting a hold of Morrissey. Sanctuary are really doing a scattergun job with their promotion, regardless it seems to be working.

i have been in sydney for 3 weeks on vacation from the states. i have seen VERY little press or anything at all about moz for that matter. the virgin store in downtown sydney had zero copies of yatq or any other moz/smiths cd's for that matter. i did hear a dj on triple j near coffs harbour mention something about the new record but no song was ever played. no wonder he isn't keen to tour here. not to mention the cash involved in getting everyone to australia! on a more upbeat note, australia (sydney in particular) has been absolutely fabulous. me, my wife and our little boy have been treated wonderfully every single place we've been. this is an absolutely wonderful place!!
