Morrissey inspires Jeremy Clarkson's Sunday Times column

Requiescant Inpacce writes:

Jeremy Clarkson's column for the Sunday Times today is entirely inspired by Morrissey's decision to have The New York Dolls play at Meltdown this year.

Clarkson describes having the original Dolls line-up play as pretty miraculous given that most of those who have passed through the ranks of The Dolls have now passed away. He describes being a NY Doll as 'probably one of the Top 10 Most Dangerous Jobs In The World' given the high fatality rate.

The article then goes on to describe how most of the greatest Rock Stars passed away early in life.....everyone from Sid Vicious to Karen Carpenter.

It's ironic that Clarkson should use Morrissey as the basis of his article given that those in the British press who disliked 'You Are The Quarry' compared Morrissey's lyrics to 'Olde Englande' rants.

I was forced to revise my opinion of Clarkson after in March 2003 he used his Sunday Times column to alert the rest of the country to the fact that Burton-on-Trent is "the worst town in the world". Anyone with access to a major library should look this article out as his extremely incisive critique clearly demonstrates that The Idler overlooked what should have been the jewel in the crown of their recent "Crap Towns" book.

On a more serious note, his documentary on the Victoria Cross last year was true quality.

The man clearly has good taste - though obviously not satorially.
