New York Dolls Bassist Dies - Billboard.com
New York Dolls bassist Arthur Kane died last night (July 13) in Los Angeles due to complications from leukemia, the group's manager confirms to Billboard.com. He was 55.
The reunited Dolls were fresh off a well-received appearance at Morrissey's Meltdown Festival in London last month and had also opened some of Morrissey's concerts in May in New York. It is unclear if the David Johansen-led group will still perform next month at Little Steven's International Underground Garage Festival in New York.
The Dolls are scheduled to release an album for Morrissey's Attack imprint in September, but no details have been revealed. Johansen is understood to be in Paris and is preparing a statement on the group's future.
Kane is the fourth member of the pioneering '70s glam rock outfit to pass away, including guitarist Johnny Thunders, who died of a drug overdose in 1991.

From HitsDailyDouble:
A DOLL PASSES: New York Dolls bassist Arthur "Killer" Kane died of advanced leukemia in an L.A. area hospital last night. Kane, who had reunited with surviving bandmates David Johansen and Syl Sylvain for last month's acclaimed performance at Morrissey's Meltdown Festival in London, entered the hospital thinking he was suffering from pneumonia. There will be a public memorial held behind the Mormon Temple, 10777 Santa Monica Blvd., on Saturday at 10 a.m. The Dolls, who released two groundbreaking albums in the '70s, were also slated to play in Japan and at next month's Little Steven-sponsored Garage Festival at Randall's Island in N.Y.C. Kane, a devout Mormon, was being followed around by a camera crew from the church for a documentary, A New York Doll, which detailed his recovery from alcohol and drug abuse. Photographer Bob Gruen, a close friend of the band's, said that, because of the band's current comeback, Arthur died "with a smile on his face." Dolls members Johnny Thunders, Billy Murcia and Jerry Nolan had all previously passed away from drug-related causes. (7/14p) ---
