I can't remember what was it he had after viva hate came out when he cancelled everything for a month. If he's not up to this much work, either physically or mentally, then he shouldn't take it on. But feigning meningitis, if that is what he has done, is pretty low.

Given his history, I'm suprised anyone believed he was actually sick in the first place.

Not all types of meningitis are contagious, but I guess the writer felt his/her crappy article wouldn't be so scandalous without saying that it is a 'highly contagious disease', so decided to leave out that little fact.

I don't know if this story is true or not. But even if it is, can we give the man a break? He's not some dancing chimp that will perform at the crack of a whip. He's human, he gets tired. Let him have his mental health days.

And yes, I know Morrissey has pulled gigs in the past. And I imagine it must be annoying and upsetting that he didn't show. But these were free gigs, anyway. Let's give the man some consideration. After all he's given us, isn't that the least we can do?

First off, isn't meningitis deadly? Couldn't he at least made up a more believable excuse?

Secondly, Kilborn made a HUGE commitment to Morrissey to schedule him on his show for 5 straight nights (hardly a ratings bonanza). Most performers who know they're good would pay for that kind of exposure.

If he wasn't so damn weak-minded, he could have gone on the show and showcased his talent. But then he would have nothing to complain about when his album tanks. Woulda Coulda Shoulda--that is the story of Morrissey's life.

This story is making everybody sound like a broken record. It's all hearsay and misinfo. Morrissey has never said he has meningitis now, he said he's had it last month, and then embarked on a gruelling tour while he was still convalescing. After all this strain he needed rest, and his doctor advised him to rest for one week. That is, he advised him to avoid performing. Not to avoid going out and shopping. That's all.

It's funny that on the US side, there's an assumption that if it's not meningitis, Morrissey is playing hooky to spite Kilborn. But in this Virgin rumor mill thing, it's suggested that if it's not meningitis, then it's Morrissey's spiting of the ENTIRE WORLD because he so resents Keane keeping him out of the #1 spot on the UK charts.

Morrissey, as great as he is, is notorious for not showing up (I have had tickets to 3 differant Morrissey shows that were canceled over the years) and I am not surprised at all that he is claiming to be ill.

The infuriating part is that it's not like Morrissey is new to the whole being a rockstar thing, he has been doing this for 20+ years. He should know by now what the schedule is like and he should know what he can and cant (or is willing to or not) handle and schedule things accordingly. These are the types of things that turn rabid fans into casual listeners. How many times can you get stood up before you stop making dates?

Morrissey and I were both tired and we walked past "the pub that wrecks your body." I wanted a spinach salad and Morrissey enjoyed Bailey's with coffee. We briefly made out, then enjoyed light conversation and discussed the possibility of a Beatles reunion tour. It was quite lovely.

I don't believe Morrissey is ill and am not surprised if he blew off Craig Kilborn entirely. The stuff that's been on the show over the last week has been ghastly cliche and just.. embarrassing. Kilborn appears to be totally clueless for such a "die-hard" fan.

I'm definitely not watching ANY more Craig Kilborn. I kind of liked his show, until I witnessed what I did last night. In hopes of Morrissey showing up, I stayed up late, to see no mention other than rather nasty jabs at Morrissey fans. "They are silly". What Craiggers doesn't know is that there is NO MORE LOYAL FAN BASE in the world than Morrissey Fans. Morrissey Fans are beyond obsessed, and incredibly steadfast. When you insult them, you insult the artist by proxy.

I feel that his "comedy bits" aimed at the fans are just Frat Boy Posturing. Morrissey fans are a very loyal, intelligent, caring group of individuals, and if you're going to invite an artist to be on your show, they deserve respect. I was really disappointed that Moz had cancelled his week stay on Kilborn. It is selfish of me I know but Moz does not come to Canada that often. So seeing him on the show would have been if you will a mini-concert for us here.

Why would he risk hurting his career by doing something like this? He's worked hard...why would he throw it away by pretending he had...meningitis (of all things)?

I didn't have tickets to see Morrissey on the lollapoolza tour and I didn't see him in CA or NYC, so it doesn't effect me in that way, but I feel for the people who've already purchased tickets or made travel plans...If, IF, this is all true.

Morrissey unfortunately has meningitis -- he went into detail about it on one of the recent interviews (hip-hop playing while he was confined to his hospital bed after a brain scan, remember? Even Moz couldn't make up a scenario that hideous for himself). The condition could definitely have been exacerbated if he had continued at the phenomenal pace he was going (for the younger fans, can you imagine your 45 year-old dad doing all that Moz is doing right now?). Looking at the other factors:

On the tour schedule, other than Kilborn & Pepsi Smash, you'll notice there's a nice two week break for our hard-working, brilliant, but meningitis-addled hero.

YATQ didn't get to #1 in the UK -- a slight disappointment in otherwise what's looking to be the best commercial phase in Morrissey's career. But still, it probably made the above two-week break look all the more deserved for him.

Kilborn's mockery probably had little to do with it. He is a comedian (whether you think he's funny or not). His way of showing his obsession with Moz includes making fun of him -- no foul. Don't think this is much to do with Morrissey's cancellation -- maybe 2.8% of the reason.

In short, he should get lots of rest until June 5th, watch his video of "The Leather Boys" and go to Dublin with his Irish blood pumping and put on a storming show!

Just because you're sick doesn't mean you can't leave the house. If he wanted some DVDs, hell, what else is he gonna do, watch the finale of American Idol??

I would've liked to see him on Kilborn. I was all ready to tape it and everything. But I guess it just wasn't to be. It seems unlikely he'll get booked for five nights in the future, but I'm sure he'll be invited back on there.

Anyway, he's got a long summer ahead, and it's very important that he get all the rest he needs so he's 100%. I'd rather have him miss Kilborn than miss AUGUST 9 IN OHIO WHERE I HAVE TICKETS.

Let me get this straight. Morrissey cancels Killborn and Pepsi smash because of a recurring bout of meningitis. I think were all being hoodwinked here. Firstly, meningitis in any form is very very serious. This is an inflamation of the brain that produces a stiff neck and excrutiating headache. My neighbor had a slight case of the non contageous kind and was in the hospital over a week with a high fever, had to have a spinal tap, and was put on massive doses of antibiotics.After the hospital he was home for a month to recuperate. Anyone in contact with him had to take anibiotics for a week as a precaution. Secondly,im sure most of us follow Morrissey solo on a daily basis and nothing like this has cropped up on the site.It seems Moz's every move has been written about the last few months. Thirdly, i was at the New York Apollo shows were he said he had a bad chest. (chest cold). This is hardly meningitis. Dont get me wrong im sure Moz had very good reasons for doing what he did and it's really not our business. Whatever the reason, the guy blew a week off of national exposure which could have really helped the sales of his new record. In any event Moz is still #1 in my heart and if sick, i hope he gets well soon. Sanctuary just should not treat us fans like uneducated morons. Tell the real story.

      MCD say tht despite him cancelling a number of US media appearances last week due to ill health, they’re “confident” that Morrissey’s June 5 visit to Dublin Castle will still go ahead.

Says a Mozzer spokesperson: “Morrissey has regretfully had to cancel his appearance on CBS’ Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn. He has been involved in an exhaustive global promotion campaign for You Are The Quarry the past several months. Unfortunately the strain of the schedule and a recent bout with meningitis resulted in his doctor insisting that he cancel all current appearances. He remains very appreciative of Craig’s continued support as well as the support of his fans.”

On a more positive note, last week saw You Are The Quarry debuting at number 2 in the UK and number 3 in Ireland, his highest chart placings in years.

I think that he's being honest about his sickness. There are relapses when it comes to meningitis; meaning that some days are worse than others. Maybe Morrissey felt some fresh air would do him good on Tuesday... Anyway, I still believe that Morrissey should get some sleep and lay it low. Stress makes meningitis worse. I hope that he can get himself rested so that he may be able to fully enjoy the success his new album is already getting.

P.S. I think most of you would sorely regret saying the things you've said if his condition worsened. Be glad that he was well enough to go shopping; I'd personally rather do that then be on Pepsi Smash! (Eww... fizzy drinks...) ;)

Come on, Morrissey and other major artists do not care at all about the charts. His record label will be 'extremely' pleased with the single, and with the album, which are both selling well, all over the world but chart positions are something that only idiots (idiots in the pop music world - and C4) care about with intensity (in my experience) so get real !

Do I belive he's sick, no I don't, do I believe he needs a rest, yeah sure.I mean he's not a young man anymore, he's near middle age, and when you get to that age you do need more rest. Understandable to say he has an illness to get rest a recupporation, but not a very good excuse, he should have said he has some other illness or something or sprained his ankle.
