Is it really true that it would have taken only 7 more albums to make # 1? That's painful. Not that the charts are any indication of what's good... but it would have been a minor feather in Mozzer's cap.

I like Quarry. Its taken a while to grow, a dreadful old cliché yes, but apt. Its not perfect, but then who wants that? Its far more than we could expect from a 45 year old singer who could just sit in LA and soak up up the rays. Not to mention the Jeds.

He turning into the alternative Sinatra. More a icon, less a person. Though his TV interviews betray him exactly like he has been telling us all these years, Shy, ungainly, things to say. All those fans saying, 'I cringed when I saw him', what did they expect? Jim Carrey?

Everyone said it was going to be number 1! Numerous dj's on the radio and record shops! Something very doddgy has gone on! Shurely the moz sold more copies than Keane!!

Thank all those who download the new CD (and not buy it right away... or at all) for #2. This should have been a #1 hands down! Many say the charts are crap but Morrissey would have loved another #1. I guess it's better than #3 but even "Vauxhall and I" hit #1 as did "Viva Hate". Let's say it how it is..... #2 sucks.

I think Keane sold 150,000 the previous week. If Moz got anywhere close to 100,000, that would be a pretty major success. There's a chance he may have outsold Vauxhall (in the first week). Unlike the singles chart, albums are selling pretty healthily in the UK these days.

Does anybody know how first week sales for YATQ compares to other albums in terms of number of units sold?

It's so wonderful that many people are listening to your songs, I play them all day-they are so fantastic! I love your voice, I love you too, Morrissey. The sound is very cool. It gives me the strength. Guitars are cool, drum is precise, key board is a good effect, sometimes comical, and your voice is goes up and down beautifully,-your songs makes me sing, Yesterday I was singing all day. I bought 3 albums for my friends, It's going to be No.1 next week for sure, because it's so wonderful! Ganbarimashita, Morrissey!

keane sold 80,000, moz 75,000, not too bad after all, maladjusted sold around 28,000. Thanks to tom in g.discussion for the info

they were listed as possibles / tracklistings a couple of months ago.and i did see them listed on a few cat.ordering web sites.

maybe they were red herrings??

maybe they will be future b-sides.

we'll see.

..fuck what number it goes to, personally, most of the acts I like don't even chart, but the only real issue is journalistic. If he had made #1, it would have been a good angle for more press coverage ("Moz on top!!"...as it were). This coverage would have encouraged sales in subsequent weeks. Now the album is out and only got to #2, there's nowhere for the story to go, so it will be back to business, and the album won't do as well next week, and in the following weeks. No Number one = less press coverage = fewer sales.

That said, we should all be thankful. Sanctuary (and to be fair, the man himself) could've done a lot less and we could be discussing whether No.34 was all right.

As Moz sang a long time ago...."What difference does it make ?". It's number ONE in our hearts and his, and that's what counts. Well done , MOZ.

Irish Blood (understandably in my opinion) was hardly played at all on UK radio (didn't even make top 50 airplay). Couple that with mixed reviews for the album and it's amazing that Quarry did as well as it did.
People can overlook mixed reviews when they hear a fantastic single like TFOTGTD.

Why does this feel like such a disappointment?
I was SO sure he was going to be at Number 1 in the album charts this week. Still, I'm (ever so very slightly) pleased that it was Keane that kept him from the Number 1 position and nothing as execrable as those two awful twats both singing the same pish, that kept him from Number 1 in the singles chart.

Still....the glass is half full, right? After the poor sales of "Southpaw Grammar" and "Maladjusted" is suppose this is something of major triumph. So congratulations all round to Mozz and The Lads, and thanks again to Sanctuary for at least having the guts and vision to really go out on a limb and properly and enthusiastically promote these fine records, and this exceptional artist.

I think he must have said "7...k" and we thought the k meant ok rather than a thousand. anyway his sixth no.2 is no bad result but shouldve been fifth no.1 of course and suedehead re-entered the charts at no.72 as well (the album that is).

What about all the copies he sold in Sainsbury's the week before because of the cock-up? Presumably not significant enough to make a difference. Oh well, how frustrating. Keane can fuck off, they already had their week at no 1, should've made way for the master. I shall hate them henceforth, even if they're pleasant enough in an MOR corporate Coldplay kind of way and they did admit to a Moz influence.
