NME 'confirm' Glastonbury show and give first impression of Quarry

Neil G writes:

In this week's NME, 'You are the quarry' is 'on the NME stereo' and described as 'lyrically sharp and genuinely moving, Mozzer fans rejoice'.

Elsewhere it says 'Morrissey has revealed he will be performing at Glastonbury this year'. NME asked him what he remembered about Glasto 84 and Moz said "Asking for the toliet and being directed to a hole in the ground. So hopefully the facilities have improved."

oopse, don't know whether the word 'confirm' was appropriate but couldn't think of another one. perhaps 're-inforce the rumour' would have been more accurate!

Quarry reviewed this month or next? (Score:0)

I think it probably does. The Observer mentioned that they were playing 'Crashing Bores' in their music seciton last Sunday and said it was the highpoint of Quarry, so presumably copies of the album have gone out, and the first proper music press review could be with us within seven days!

Slightly off topic but here in the UK I think its suspect (not in a bad way) the amount of new fairly high profile albums that are now due for release on May 17th. Look at any release dates website and you'll see about 10 albums due from fairly well known artists - not least the Charlatans - coming out.

                Whats the significance?

Its beautifully balanced. I want Moz to sell well but if 'Quarry' hits no.1 the media attention that will be turned on him will be immense. Cries of sellout will soon follow, along with everybody from the milkman to ignorant DJ's citing Morrissey as someone whose always been their favourite - when no buggers mentioned him in the mainstream for seven years.

It's hard to raise this point without coming across as an elitist naysayer but Moz's music has always been one of my only 'personal' vices. No of my close friends appreciate his career and everytime I go into a pub I don't hear 'Panic' banging away like every other 80's bands wares still doing the rounds and BY GOD thats a good thing.

I love the quiet intensity of I know its Over to the uptempo flippancy of Piccadilly Palare. The tragic repetition in Rubber Ring to the beauty of Asleep. By all means the world should share in any new material that has a bit of depth but if that means ignorant wannabes trying to jump on a bandwagon then losing out to the Charlatans or whoever on May 17th isnt the end of the world.
