AL: It's well known that Morrissey is a huge fan of yours and he's programming Meltdown. Now, no pressure... but... any news? Can you give us any kind of insight? No pressure at all.
Russell: No pressure at all... We were in Los Angeles.. Both uh... well...what can I... I... I... can't.

AL: If you don't want to reveal anything you don't have to, but...
Russell: We... we... met with Morrissey and... and uh...

DB: You'd like to play.
Russell: The... the... question has been... has been... put to us... in a... in a... certain way... but we can't tell more than that.

DB: But you'd like to play, all things being equal?
Ron: There's a certain nostalgic element to how he would like us to be presented that doesn't quite fit in with the way we would like to be presented.

DB: Oh I see, okay. He wants Sparks in aspic (sp?) (Everyone laughs).

    Ofcourse they'll play, if Morrissey have asked them,
    playing at Meltdown wil give their carrier more PR
    than their enire past 5 years, or so?

    you've known they still make records , or even
    heard about the Sparks? [especially the ones beneath 25 years of age]

      Sparks played twice at the Royal Festival Hall, that is where (the Meltdown festival takes place every year) last year and two years before that if I am right, I've missed them on both occasions but my point is they do have an audience with or without Morrissey. The latest album is very inventive, certainly not for everyone but very good.
      The fact that 25 years old people might not know them doesn't make irrelevant on the contrary, it is probably a good sign!

      I saw Sparks play at Ocean twice this weekend and Russell said that they will be back real soon, but he couldn't say when we'll all have to wait to read about it in the paper.

      If Sparks agree to play at Meltdown I hope Morrissey wont have them play Kimono My House -its not 1974 anymore you know! - Lil' Beethoven has to be their best album to date. If you can find me one other band 32 years into their career writing and performing an album as interesting, inventive and accomplished as Lil' Beethoven, I will personally come down and buy them a very hearty luncheon.

      Moz wants them to just play one of their albums from 1970-something but they want to play more recent stuff too.
      How would Moz feel if someone asked him to go to a similar festival and just play The Queen Is Dead and ignore his current stuff?
      You can understand why the request was made but surely he can imagine how he'd feel if the tables were turned...
