Billy Bragg on Morrissey (again)

Hardly a piece of news any more, but during last night's Billy Bragg concert in Oslo, he made several mentions of Moz. The most interesting and funny story was about when he had been invited to Moz's house for Christmas, and in his bed Billy found a blue rubber sheet - to avoid damage from possible nocturnal incontinens (sp?), as he put it. At the same occasion, Billy had woken up during the night and gone out of his room and run into Jimmy Sommerville, of all people.

Billy also mentioned that Morrissey was going to play 7-8 concerts in Britain soon.

The musical highlight, though, was when he sang a few lines from Reel Around The Fountain (the "I dreamt about you"- and "take me to the haven"-passages), in the middle of one of his own songs. He also quoted a line from Shoplifters of the World ("I was bored before I even began"), when talking between the songs.

I've seen Billy several times in Dallas and Atlanta and he always mentions that he's the "workingman's Morrissey" and other items.

You gotta love that geezer Billy Bragg.

      some questions that need answering.

      1) did billy spend the night at morrissey's house?
      2) if billy did spend the night, was it his or morrissey's bed that he found the rubber sheet?
      3) did jimmy sommerville spent the night too?
      4) was morrissey running a bed and breakfast at the time?
      5) what year did this happen? sommerville kind of turned into a dirty bird by 1989 (i have a firsthand account of it).

I love Billy Bragg and appreciate his wit but he's trotted out the rubber sheets as Moz's house story a few times now at various shows. He seems to be of mixed minds on Morrissey. He clearly likes his lyrics but I sense a jealousy regarding fame/fortune and a little frustration that Moz hasn't used his powers for many worthy causes.

I saw Billy Bragg in 1987 just after the Smiths split. After playing a solo rendition of one of his songs (on which Marr played on on the record - can't remember the title now...) Bragg said:

"Where's Johnny Marr when you need him?"... as an afterthought he said "I bet Morrissey is thinking the same thing!".

Based on all the stories posted about Billy Bragg, I can only conclude that the man is pathetically obsessed with the Moz man. I am still getting over my deep disappointment that Jimmy Sommerville participated in a slumber party at the Moz-mansion. Who next? Pete Burns? Marc Almond? Andy Bell of Erasure? George Michael? Rob Halford? Boy George? Truly, truly disappointed...I wonder if anyone feels the same way?
