In the February 4-17, 2004 issue of L.A. Alternative Press, Max Padilla, in his "Maxed Out" column (it's actually a review of Silverlake bar, MJ's), mentions Morrissey. Excerpted are the bits that pertain to Morrissey.

"My dad had KRLA and K-Earth to listen to. Now I have my own oldies station-Indie 103, playing all the music I cut Algebra class to, like the Smiths."

"Speaking of the Smiths, I'm always amused by reports of Morrissey sightings-as if he were our very own Greta Garbo. I've been at parties where people compare Moz sightings at the House of Pies or the Cat and the Fiddle. My friend Lola Olivas' ran into the fey crooner at Book Soup, where he bolted after locking eyes with her. He probably thought she was a crazed Chicana fan, although she ain't.     Both the writer of this news article and the person who made an anonymous comment before me are racist. Why is the fan a "crazed 'CHICANA' fan." Why can't she just be a crazed fan. I'm a Chicana myself and proud of it, but the manner in which it was said in this article makes Chicana sound deragotory. And even more derogatory is that "beaner" comment. What do you mean by "beaner." That's just the same as saying Nigger. They're both demeaning words and hurt!
