Index interview - interesting excerpt

Here is an interesting excerpt and a possible explanation I have been looking for (from the just released Index magazine interview):

Interviewer: “People want to know everything about a famous person. You can log onto an artist’s website and read what he ate for breakfast”

Morrissey: “I feel sad that there’s so much stuff that I theoretically ‘signed’ on eBay. And you can watch the bidding climb and climb."

Could this explain his changing the lyric on ‘Drive-in Saturday’ at his New York performance at the Beacon (which I was privileged to be in attendance of) to: “Cursing at the Internet” as documented here as well : http://www.compsoc.man.ac.uk/%7Emoz/

In the article there is a great photo of Morrissey reclining on the floor surrounded by MIC stands in a rather drab, but very British (in my opinion) studio recording room.

I was struck at how Morrissey appears to have aged. It should be no surprise, I know. But I will forever have images of the youthful crooner embedded in my brain. It’s always hard to watch our heroes age (which Morrissey and the world didn’t have to do in a few obvious occasions).

“Leave a pretty corpse” as they say.

I always look very closely at those "signed" photos and because I'm never sure, I never bid on them. I've heard lots of people say, or read, really, as I don't come into contact face to face with Morrissey fans often, that it is easy to copy his signature.

I was on ebay the other day and came across a supposedly "signed by James Dean" ripped corner of a piece of paper. It was close, but I could tell it wasn't his signature. I think the starting bid was $150?

It's crazy. I only bid on something I know for sure is authentic or rare. By authentic, I mean I've known of the person for a long time.

I did, however, find his recollections of his early shows in Manchester to be interesting. Still, I kind of miss the snarky Morrissey of the Smash Hits interviews. Today, he's more of a "legend" and journalists too often ask him alot of backward-looking questions, rather than treating him like a performer of the here and now.

Most of the guesses were roughly in the mid-50s. i was particularly saddened/amused by the few who said "i reckon he's about 50 but i'll say 65".

Poor, poor man. I just don't understand how it happened. He *seems* to live a healthy enough life!

One girl rose to his defence "maisie, he doesn't look that old, when my dad was that age he looked the same practically, it's all in his genes." How can she admit to that? If it's genetic, it's her problem too!!!
