'Panic' performed at 'You're A Star' auditions

This is by no means a major scoop but since it's approaching the festive season a light disposable story will do no harm

'You're A Star' is the Irish Pop/American Idol type programme which hosts auditions throughout the country. The eventual winner will go on to represent Ireland in the Eurovision song contest! I prefered the prizes Jim Bowen used to knock out on Bulleye personally but there you go.

Anyway, the auditions were in Letterkenny recently - a lovely expanding town, host to a fine Smiths performance in December of 1984, and still fondly remembered by Morrissey. Anyway some bloke managed to impress a group of Judges including the odious Phil Coulter (composer of Sandie Shaw's abysmal 'Puppet on a String') and Louis Walsh (Boyzone, Girls Aloud manager, with a personality as banal as his musical taste) with his acoustic rendition of 'Panic'. It's the first time I've ever come across someone using a Smiths/Morrissey track for one of these type of things. Imagine a Morrissey fan going all the way to Eurovision glory? No I can't either!

Can no one remember my brilliant rendition of 'Miserable Lie' at last years Pop Stars: The Rivals auditions. Was my singing in vain? I didn't make it through, but this was clearly the sort of media bias in action that Morrissey has been complaining about for years.

It wasn't December 1984, it was 22nd November. I know I was there. I know it doesn't really matter but I just wanted to tell you I was there.
