The following appeared in the Manchester Evening News 17th May, page 12. The article appeared with a colour picture of Morrissey relaxing in an open top car.

MORRISSEY IS BACK WITH VENOM

Pop legend Morrissey launches fresh attacks on the Royal Family and Tony Blair in a new documentary. And in his first major TV interview in 16 years, the outspoken Manchester singer and vocal veggie returns to his 'Meat is Murder' theme.

'It's on the same moral leval as child abuse. It's the same thing.' he insists. 'Animals are like children. They look to us for protection and we should protect them.'

He added 'I feel quite smug about mad cow disease and foot and mouth. I just think ''well what do you expect?'' People have been saying it for years. It's all abuse and it's all human evil. Which is why I think the Royal Family are evil, because they enjoy foxhunting. These are despicable people.'

The Importance Of Being Morrissey is due to be screened on Channel 4 next month. A film crew was given exclusive access to the enigmatic former lead singer of The Smiths on tour last year and inside his Los Angeles home.

Still without a record deal, Morrissey lives up to his eccentric image, taking tea with Nancy Sinatra and explaining how he never uses the telephone - communicating instead by fax.

      Royal Family (Score:0)
      COnsidering he dislikes the royals so much, why does he:

      1. Act like a queen

      2. Insist on travelling like royalty, i.e. first class and let the rest of the band travel economy

      3. Insist on the best hotels and suites, hence his Dorchester Hotel bill for 3 nights came to over £10,000

      4. Not carry cash or ever pay a bill just like royalty

      5. Come out with stupid, insulting remarks just like Prince Phillip

      6. Not say the same thing twice about the same subject just like Prince Charles in interviews

      I think Mozzer is a secret royal, maybe the bastard child of Edward the Eighth and Mrs Simpson

      Yep, thats right . He says he never uses the phone just like he said he never logged on to Morrissey-Solo before. But, hey Moz you sure logged on to get mad about the rumors didnt ya ?

              Same moral level as child abuse (Score:0)
              Im a strict vegetarian and have always been proud of Morrissey's campaigning, but that remark about eating meat being akin to child abuse is completely offensive and unintelligent and sends the whole vegetarian debate back 100 years.

              Anybody who's ever known somebody who's been abused or been abused themselves can vouch for this. By all means Morrissey keep up the fight to keep bacon sandwiches off people's plates but if you seriously think that eating beef or lamb is THE SAME LEVEL as the incestuous rape of young children then you are on your own.

              And for somebody with a history of complaining against false allegations of promoting child abuse in lyrics (Reel Around Fountain, Ambitious Outsiders) why make such a dangerous comparison to begin with?
