His writing style bodes well for the (hopefully) forthcoming memoirs!!

it's not a new Morrissey album but it will have to do for now... I had a drink in the Grave Maurice last week. The best thing about the place is the name....

I was electrified reading these liner notes; I need this album NOW. After all these years, I see a thrillingly different Morrissey, one revealed through his prose. His style reminds me of Elizabeth Smart's prose-poem "By Grand Central Station..."

Morrissey sure has set the standard for sleeve notes in the Under The Influence series....How's Justin Trousersnake going to compete with that when he gets a go...

What really excites me about this compilation is that, being a fan as long as I have been, I have never known what LUDUS with Linder Sterling sounds like. We have all seen her picture in The Complete Story & her taking the snapshot of Morrissey in the bathtub in her photo book, Morrissey Shot, but I never heard one second of the music.

At last, I will be able to. Am I the only one?

A bit overwritten, IMHO. Way too many adjectives--as if he was merely attempting to show off. This kind fo writing style is evident in rookie creative writing students.

Is he tryng to mimick Johnny Rogan? "Put down the thesaurus and step away my son."

However, it displays a side of him rarely given away.

I hope a website emerges, detailing the sources from which he composed these thoughts.

Johnny Rogan is an incredibly boring writer.

I think Morrissey naturally thinks in this kind of mytho-poetic way. I don't think he's trying to copy anybody.

Damn me. All this time I thought Under The Influence was a new album with new Moz material. *breaks things*

Great read for the liner notes. I felt something, something that I hadn't heard from Morrissey in a long time. It makes me realize how much I miss him.

I hope he isn't planning to die anytime soon. That last sentence was rather ominous. At least the stays away from those nasty drugs.

Thought his comment on Bolan the man was interesting.

"I am still amazed at the brevity of Marc Bolan’s success, and at the speed of his decay, and by how people who knew him never seem to say anything nice about him. But, weren’t we made to be this way?"

And like so many of US; we've come to despise the man but love the greatness he's given.

Brilliant, now I have the cd notes i wanted, - I won't have to buy the cd.......

I too thought this was another compilation. I actually was hoping for a new album. I was wrong on both accounts. With the comments the past few weeks, I seriously doubt Moz will ever tour again. I hope I'm wrong, but it doesn't look too bright. Will Athens be the last Moz gig?

Combine that writing style with a good story and we have potentially one of the greatest novelists of our time.
He's never denied wanting to write a novel or memoirs or anything of the kind. I think it would be more than a pleasure to read.
Looking forward to the album too, by the way.

Yesterday on leaving work I ventured into Manchester city centre where I proceeded to buy 'Cool As' - The Inspiral Carpets Greatest Hits and the classic book 'Hobsons Choice' in paperback.
Can anybody else offer me anything quite as eclectic that they may have bought yesterday?

Out of all the songs that are bound to be in the feller's record collection, he put in a Charlie Feathers tune. Thanks, Mozza. Charlie was the greatest.

ummm what is Moz on about with the Louisiana bit... Acadia is in Canada.

I implore all you people who have been writing recently about 'Oh please post the entire Word interview I cant be bothered to go to a shop' and 'oh why bother buying Under The Influence when I can just download the whole thing' open your wallet and indulge.

The Word interview was a delight and the whole mag was worth £3.50 of your money. Plus the pictures of him were fantastic (especially liked the one at the start of the piece looking at building site with LA as a backdrop, him looking happily bemused with a cereal box and the smaller one of him at the RAH - god I'd pay to have a large one of that on my wall!). As for Under The Influence the selection may not be to everyones tastes but if your at least curious go on splash out and be seen to support him - good sales will mean increased media interest, if only to a small degree.

On an unrelated note I'm in Manchester at the moment but next Thursday I'm backpacking across the US with no set route for a month so if any happy Moz fans want to get together and discuss all things the Moz please feel free to email me and I'll make an effort to travel through your area and go for a drink. I'm keen to meet fans across the world and get different perspectives.

I received my Morrissey-under the influence in the post today, on vinyl of course. And no sleeve notes?? Why the hell is that? Only sleeve notes for the CD? I bought this one, so I could listen AND read at the same time...
Truly disappointing!
