Last night (Apr. 19) in Athens, GA, Kindercore Records duo I AM THE WORLD TRADE CENTER covered Morrissey's "Suedehead" at the Forty Watt club. Needless to say, the crowd went wild.

They're so cute. I like their covers of "Shoot You Down" and "Call Me"...I'd like to hear their take on Moz.

Just FYI: They had it before for 9/11...I had heard they were going to change it to "I am the World" but as New Yorkers maybe they wanted to keep it as sort of a tribute or something.

Oh. Based on what I read on their web site I assumed they were naming themselves in reference to the events of 9/11. I'm sure my opinion doesn't really concern them in any case :-)

I think that name is very disrespectful. It doesn't matter if they had that name before 9/11. Of course, i'm not speaking from experience, being a So-Cal I was very far from the incident, but I would not think it would be cool to hear of a band with that name if I had lived through that experience. And I don't think the families of those lost in that tragedy would like to hear that either. I'm not trying to speak for them, I just don't think a name like that is appropriate. If they wanted make a 'tribute', I think they could have gone about it in a better way. Losing the name would have been a good start.
I'm also not saying they don't have a right to have it. They have every right to have a name like that, just as I have every right not to spend money or time on them or their music. For now i'll take Suedehead from it's original source.

      Out.

Now it makes even more sense why The Smiths called themselves The Smiths. It was a good idea because then they wouldn’t get all that bad publicity that they would if they had a name like I AM THE WORLD TRADE CENTER. But seriously, a name is a name and by changing your name in the name of terror is letting terror win.

Anyway, all in all it's just another cover but I suppose it will temp some Morrissey fans who are desperate to hear something new to give them a quick listen.
