      Terrible article... (Score:0)
      This is another terrible article trying to drum up some interest in current bands by appealing to 80's nostalgia. First off, the Smiths and the Cure were never John Hughes-soundtrack bands. Simply Red? Yes. Smiths? No. Also, I have heard only one of the bands he mentions, "My Favorite" but rest assured they are terrible. (At least "Homeless Club Kids", which he mentions, is really a horrible song, and is nothing like the Smiths or even New Wave.) As long as music writers mention the Smiths, they will sucker us into reading their inane journalistic shite.

        I think Interpol is the best new group to come around in a while, and I'm happy they're getting some recognition. Check them out for yourself. Also, I think they are less like the Psychedelic Furs and much more like a less depressed Joy Division.

          I very much agree with the last poster. I live near Boston and just drove to NYC to see them for my third time. They are one of the best bands out there today. They have a new sound and you can hear influences of Joy Division and The Smiths. Influences. They really don't remind me of the Psychedelic Furs and I am a big fan of theirs too. Maybe intelligent music is making a come back...

              This group out of Omaha. It's fronted by the lead singer of the group Bright Eyes by the name of Conner Oberst. Both are the same, except that Bright Eyes is more acoustic, whereas Desaparecidos is more electric. The music is "mopy" to the 13th power. It's still cool though.
