Morrissey still not signed - note to Janice Long

Listening to Janice Long on BBC Radio 2 in the UK early this morning, (7.1.03),I was pleased that the first tune she played after the news break was 'Last of the Famous....'. Nothing special in this you may think, but when Janice plays a Morrissey song it's usually followed with an interesting snippet of information on Mozzer himself. After the record Janice said 'I had a fax from Mozzer just before Christmas' and she added, (in a Morrissey-esque piqued voice and a giggle), that it said 'I'm still not signed'.

...Ms. Long mentioned that just before Christmas Morrissey had sent her a fax. Within which Moz said he "still didn't have a record deal and he couldn't believe it"!

So unless Mozza has signed a deal between Christmas and now, he still is without a deal!

    What? Those rumours were all unfounded!!

    I was lead to believe that so-and-so's best-mate who is in-the-know, had it on good authority that the deal was signed. Why do these "best-mate" people always talk such s**t?

      I have worked for Universal music for 8 years now, and I can assure you that NOTHING has happened or will happen with morrissey. We just dropped him via Mercury a few years ago remember??

      As much as I love Morrissey and would give my teeth to see him signed on with us, it will not happen.

      I'm not in A&R, but I am with marketing.

      I cannot speak for Arista or any of the other mentioned labels, but with the Uni-groups, it's not gonna happen.

            This is desperate, depressing, but hardly surprising news.

            No record company is ever going to have the courage to sign Morrissey in the current climate...he doesn't fit into either the Pop Idol or 'Gold Chain, No Brain' scene that currently prevails...

            I'm mightly fucked off that record execs are making the decision to stop me from hearing the only artist I want to listen to.

            But I do wish people would stop posting 'hot rumours' when they are quite obviously false...these are probably the same people who keep posting comments like 'A big announcement about Morrissey tour 2003 is coming soon'.

            Hello America! There is no 2003 tour and no East Coast dates!!!!!

              a close friend of mine from sanctuary records told me that morrissey didn't want to sign because he was only offered a one record deal and morrissey wanted a three record deal so they didn't agree to terms on a contract.

                        He must feel just as if not more frustrated then all of us.
                        I for one am prepared to sit back and wait for this to happen, no need to hope to get it all forced quickly now, Morrissey will find a new lable all in good time, if it takes a bit longer for him to find one he is happy with then that will make for a better working experience for him when he is making the new record and that should make for a better record, theres plenty of good music out there to tide us over until Moz gets this all sorted, I just hope he doesnt get overly frustrated with it and give it away and decide to have one of those 'tour only' careers and give up making new albums.
