There are also some pictures at MorrisseyTour.com. Renoir also writes:

My press pass got me in to the press conference at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Melbourne. I'll post a transcription of the interview, a description of what went on and pictures in the next couple of days. Stay tuned.

Morrissey, Enmore Theatre, review by Matt Buchanan - Oct. 15, 2002, The Sydney Morning Herald

Excerpt:

I saw him in the street once, in London, mid-October 1990. Engulfed in a grey trenchcoat, quiff outstanding, he stood, a monolith of solitude, fixed among the cold shadows of the Eros statue in Piccadilly Circus. Morrissey. Agony aunt to a generation of suburban teenagers. The pimple's poet. A man, as comedian Sean Hughes once put it, trapped inside a man's body. A pop star who, while Hayzi Fantayzie gurgled, "Shiny shiny, bad times behind me", had argued the contrary. Bad times were, in fact, devotedly persistent. Wham fans had shuddered.

A good cause, but still a very strange choice... (Score:1, Insightful)
Morrissey clearly believes in this, as it's so un-traditional a cause for rockers as to be almost weird. Mark my words - some smart-ass will write some piece to the tune of, "so now, is it the rock dinosaurs trying to save the elephants? Zing!"

Morrissey is lucky he hasn't been to Cambodia or Laos - they stitch live frogs' legs together for sale in the marketplace. And in some towns, the live frogs are peeled. But you must remember, South-East Asia has really struggled for so many years, and it's impossible to expect that they will grant animals better conditions then most of the people. So I suppose there's a link between the treatment of Thai elephants with the sexual slavery of Thai brothels. It's all suffering.

Still, this Morrissey cause is good relief from the usual rainforest/Amnesty cliches. But on the list of importance - way way down.

    I await your unkind response...

A tribute to Craig Kilborn? (Score:0)
Craig chose to celebrate Morrissey gracing his show by following Morrissey with the elephant orchestra. This piece featuring tortured Elephants from Thailand. This just may have motivated Morrissey on this issue.
