Mojo (Nov.) - 'Morrissey; the resurrection!' article, interviews with Alain and Boz

there's a pretty good Moz piece in the new Mojo. Most of it is about the making of Viva Hate (loads of interesting comments from Street and Reilly). Plus there's an interview with Boz and Alain. Alain said that they've demoed about 24 songs then Boz added; "these tracks, they're just... superb."

Boz also mentioned he had put piano bits before the verses in Crashing Bores but Moz said 'cut them out, they're not necessary.'

The final comment from Alain is "Morrissey's a lot more laid-back now. More happy in himself. He's so sure of his craft now he can just..." "Fuck 'em!" interjects Boz. "Morrissey has not changed for anybody. End of story."

    Who is the producer? (Score:0)
Does anyone know who worked on the demos with Morrissey & his band, or is the stuff self-produced at this point?

I hope he chooses Steve Lillywhite as producer when the times comes to record the new CD.

i would hope that lillywhite does not produce the next moz record. the last couple did indeed cry out for something different. i thought the "maladjusted" material could have been given much more punch...i like lillywhite but he has a way with burying guitars. when you hear the same material live you get to hear just how intricate some of the parts really are...and it just doesn't come through on the albums. i have this complaint with "vauxhall" and "maladjusted". "southpaw" sounded good though...good balance between the parts...

    Visconti should produce (Score:0)
I'd love to hear what Tony Visconti could do with those demos. He's produced some amazing stuff since the late '60s (T.Rex, Bowie etc), and his profile is on the rise recently since he got back with Bowie to produce "Heathen".

I think a little experimentation is needed. Much as I like the new tracks, there is a kind of same-ness to the songs... (heads for cover...incoming!!!)

The actual article is a con; all Moz's quotes are cut and paste from old MM/NME and Face interviews (probably off Arcane Old Wardrobe site I wager) and the few new bits from Street, Reilly and Paresi arent that enlightening (unless you find the fact that Moz plays charades enlightening?)

Plus MOJO need shooting - in the extra bit where it talks to Boz and Alain, well, apparently You're The One For Me Fatty is from 1994's Vauxhall & I! Great, that must mean my copy of Your Arsenal is rare as fuck. Also, the interviewer only talks about the new songs they're already playing live when they should have asked about the other 19 or so waiting in the wings. Opportunity wasted.

Dont waste your money on this mag. And The Beatles on the cover AGAIN! It's for old farts and crashing bores only.
