It's a puppet that appeared in "Vic & Bob's big night out" TV show. I never thought it was terribly funny. The 'consumer' bit is because the puppet is supposedly concerned with 'consumer' issues ( we have a programme in the UK called 'Watchdog' - stupid people phone in and say "I bought a sofa from World of Leather for £5 and it has already fallen apart after only 10 years. How can I get my money back?").Perhaps Bob was perpetuating the Morrissey/moaning/ miserabilism theme. But, heavens, icons are going to be charicatured. Would Morrissey prefer that no-one ever talked about him? In later series Vic & Bob used Marvin Gaye and Otis Redding puppets. It's flattery really Moz. I don't understand how 'Jim Moir' ever got on to a Morrissey record. Are C.Langer/ Winstanley to blame?

"Well, I loved The Smiths. And it appears I'm one of the few people who likes the new Morrissey album. I think he's a true genius. Because I love good lyrics. That's why I like Mark E Smith. Anyway, I was up at Hook End (Oxfordshire recording studio) one weekend and I met him. I sang backing vocals on 'That's Entertainment’ actually, though they could have rubbed my bit off (they haven't). And he said he wanted to come on the show and do a bit of stomping. But he didn't turn up. Which is fair enough.

Q: Do you have any thoughts on Vic Reeves' creation, Morrissey The Consumer Monkey?
I saw it for a split second and instantly loathed its creator. It was meant to be hurtful. I've met Vic Reeves a few times and it hasn't gone too well. He is a person who cannot close his mouth for three seconds because he feels he'll disintegrate into a bowl of dust. He has to keep going on and on and on. Completely loathsome. Bob Mortimer, I liked. I think he should make a hasty exit from that duo. Can you smell the venom?
