Am I the only person offended by this article? I'm half hispanic and I felt as if he were writing about some rare breed of animal he observed in the wild. Who the fuck does this pompous prick think he is?

I've been to Enlgand and wasn't too impressed. I didn't write an article about the throngs of bad-teethed, stuffy, robotic englishmen I met. I was bored senseless talking to them about "the queen" and "fish and chips"

Get over it you pompous prick. You're no higher on the social scale than us "beaners".

After reading the article all I did was laugh, I dont think I was offended in anyway by this. I can see that some of you did not like the fact that a white man called US "beaners". You gotta admit he wasn't the one who first reffered to us as "beaners" it was the fault of the others giving him the ok of doing so. The only thing that didn't sit well with me was the fact that our fellow chicanos had responded with "we're beaners man". I mean c'mon guys? it's one thing to make jokes amoung ourselves, its another to say it to someone who might not understand how we really mean it.
Aside from that the article seemed very amuzing to me. I didnt take anything seriouly because there is no point in fighting it. Just take it as another ignorant person not taking full time of writting an article correctly.
There are many sides to the story, this is just the comical side of it! Let's think of the guys who were talking to the man. They might have been laughing there ass's off at the guy for trying to hard. You would have to be an Idiot to believe what this guy was yapping about in real life.

Dave Carnie is revealing his petty basic prejudices. I suspect that for this guy all Mexicans and/or Spanish speakers are "thugs", who are "growing up amongst gangs and violence" and so on... I also suspect that this story about "effiminate" guy who was bragging to meet Morrissey gardener was cynically made up by author to beef up all those stereotypes of Moz fans as obsessive stalkers without life... The patronizing tone of the author was sickening. Who is Dave Carnie. After all, Dave Carnie is a correspondent for the little unknown rag "Big Brother", not some big shot. I never saw or even heard about "Big Brother" before... The other day I was at Mission bay beaqch, San Diego, and I saw a lot of Mexican families parking their brand new SUVs and barbequing... Apparently Dave has yet to realize that his stereotypes are at least 40 or 50 years old and millions of Mexicans are living comfortable middle-class lifestyle with college degrees and good new economy jobs, unlike some obscure peniless overweight white loser. Dave came to Moz convention not to pay respect to Moz or at least simply drink beer and socialize, but with evil at his heart, to mock some friendly but naive teenagers and indulge his "white trash" inferiority complexes by putting down Latinos with such a venom, the same way Nazi Hoebbels propogandists would put down Jews at 1933.

I wasn't going to post this (because I'm such a chicken) but I think the negative comments are taking the article too seriously.

I won't argue that Dave Carnie is just tactless, but he's honest. I, too, was a little weirded out at the ratio of Hispanics at the first Smiths convention in LA, which the numbers have probably grown by that last convention. (Of course, having said that, I would never write an article based on Hispanic Morrissey fans and using terms like beaners.)

To turn this around, I have my little racist views towards Dave Carnie, a man who wax his pubic hair, among other shocking 'jackass' things -- how can this man be a Morrissey/Smiths fan ? At the same time, it is really amazing that he is a fan in the first place. I like that he's a real fan, at least he's ... diverse and different.

Read this excerpt from his article about meeting Morrissey:

"After the picture was taken, I thanked him and despite my yearning to sing Smiths' lyrics to prove I was indeed a fan, I waved goodbye. But before I left, a peculiar thing happened. I turned and said, "I love you." I love you? What the f*ck? I never say shit like that. True, I do love Morrissey, but you don't say that to someone. I mean dudes don't say that to dudes."

I don't know how I can close this. I guess, I am all for different race and different type of people who shares their love of Morrissey. To paraphrase Michael Jackson, "It doesn't matter if you're black or white or yellow or brown."

How pathetic is this? First, dude goes to the Moz convention and is shocked to see "90% brown". What an idiot. Well what a surprise, in case you didn't know, most of L.A.'s population is Hispanic. Then he goes out and tries to be friends with a group of guys, so that he can "get acquainted with their people." I haven't seen anything this ignorant since John Rocker set off his blasts.

Note to Dave Carnie: After dropping all these stereotypes and "beaner bombs", I don't think it would be such a wise idea to go to next year's convention. Even more hilarious than this guy's mild retardedness, is the fact that he's burned himself. We all know who you are Carnie! I was there at the convention. You were the guy who, (as you mentioned) looked somewhat like Jim Morrisson, standing up on chairs and snapping pics.

Dude, you were the only freak with long hair, glasses, and that purse...(which I'd rather not get into right now). Be wise not to show up again, "those mexicans" you befriended might not be so nice to you now that they know you are an ignorant racist.

They make fun of everybody: black, white, brown, it doesn't matter. Everybody is fair game. Don't get so bent out of shape. Oftentimes they make shit up too. This whole thing could be a put-on. The mag is run by the same shower that do jackass on MTV, so that should give you some idea…
