The Smiths were voted the 9th best album of the last 50 year with The Queen Is Dead in a new poll for BBC Radio.

THE STONE ROSES' debut album has been voted the best album.
Their self-titled 1989 classic finished just ahead of Pink Floyd's ''Dark Side Of The Moon' in the Jubilee poll voted for by listeners of 6 Music, the BBC's new digital station. The poll aimed to define the best 50 albums of the last 50 years in and ran across the Jubilee Bank Holidays.

The Top Ten also saw two bows from Radiohead, with 'The Bends' (at Four) and 'OK Computer' (Five). The Beatles went one better with three in the Top Ten, 'Revolver' (three), 'Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band' at six and 'The White Album' at Ten. Nirvana, with 'Nevermind' at Seven, U2 with 'The Joshua Tree' at Eight.

Other notable placings came from Oasis at 12 and 17 with 'Definitely Maybe' and 'What's The Story (Morning Glory)', Led Zeppelin with 'Led Zeppelin IV' at 16, - Bob Dylan at 19 with 'Blood On The Tracks', the Pixies at 32 with 'Doolittle' and the most modern inclusion coming from The Strokes with 'Is This It' at 35.

    oooh the irony (Score:1)
Its somewhat ironic that a poll to find the best album of the last 50 years for the jubilee has a republican LP in the top ten! is the BBC commiting treason? still at least Manchesters finest are in there, im pleased, though i think Meat is Murder is a better album.
