Morrissey meets Mikel Erentxun at Cinco de Mayo show; collaboration in the future?

Last night I had the privilege of witnessing the meeting of Moz and Mikel Erentxun for the first time. For those that don't know Mikel, he is a popular Spanish artist who has covered such hits as "Everyday is like Sunday" and "There is a Light that never goes out" in Spanish. He is also a HUGE fan! Moz was at Mikel's LA show checking out the scene. I was very excited to see them both together and when I gathered enough courage I asked Moz for a picture which he graciously accepted. Then I asked him to confirm if he was touring this year and he said YES! He mentioned San Francisco and LA among other areas. Truly a great night!

THE MONDIES also writes: The Moz man himself was at the Mikel Erentxun concert Sunday "Cinco de Mayo" out of all places at Leonardos in Huntington Park. He was accompanied by two blonde ladies and a HANDFUL of bodyguards. Surprisingly enough but not so much so, a while back there were rumours that Morrissey had the intention of asking Mikel to open for him. Who knows maybe he still does...rumours of an upcoming tour...hmmm....maybe Morrissey is scoping out his opening act?? Either way Mikel gave a very good performance, although Morrissey seemed a bit pensive during the performance or somewhat pre-occupied.

Mr. Greives also writes: I work at a Spanish radio station in Los Angeles. Our in studio guest this morning was Mikel Erentxun, who owes his fame partly to his interpretation of "There is a Light..." In discussing his performance Sunday night at a local Los Angeles Night Club, Mikel mentioned that he was absolutely astounded to see the Mozzer in attendance. He then described a brief conversation the two exchanged where they discussed the possibilities of a collaboration for Mikel's upcoming album.

If anybody's interested, Mikel is performing this weekend at the El Rey... promises to be a good show.

DMGirly also writes: Last night (5-5-02) Mikel Erentxun played at Leonardo's in HP. He was about to start his Spanish version of "Everyday is like Sunday", when he told the crowd that he'd like to thank the author of the song for being there that night. I started jumping up and down, telling my friends that MORRISSEY was there, but they laughed. Then my boyfriend and a friend went to the restroom but soon came back to tell us that MOZ was there!!! We took a walk and surely, he was by the bar, with 2 blonde girls. Oh man, he was looking good, in his grey suit. The light clearly shinning on his grey, thinning hair. He looked so handsome. Twas the first time I ever saw him (other than at his concerts), so I was so excited, I think I shed some tears. He had a lot of security around him, so we weren't able to talk to him, but just being within 20 feet of him... unbelieveable!!!
