The bit of news is that Doug Martsch (Built to Spill, Treepeople, The Halo Benders) played a great acoustic cover of "This Night Has Opened My Eyes" during an intimate solo gig at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle, WA on 3.27.02. I've attached an mp3 of the song (3:07, 160Kbps, 3.6MB), which I recorded.

Doug has always been a huge Moz fan, citing "Hatful of Hollow" as an early inspiration and covering "Bigmouth..." with the Treepeople as well as "Please, Please..." with The Halo Benders and name-checking "That Joke..." on the Built to Spill song "You Were Wrong".

although "intimate" might be an overstatement or you did a wonderful job editing the crowd noise. thanks for that.

Thanks David for letting us hear this cover, but I really wish Doug didn't bother. As so often is the case, the cover always makes one cherish the original that little bit more.

What lyric from "You Were Wrong" are you referring to? I know that song pretty well and there is no name-checking of "That Joke Isn't..." Is this something he does live?
