Latino Morrissey devotees to be featured on e4's "Passengers" (Jan. 4)

 Natasha writes: I was watching e4 today (e4 is a British cable channel) and I saw an advert for the programme "Passengers", which started off with the words "did you know that Morrissey has a lot of fans in Mexico?" (or something to that effect). to try and find out more, I visited the "Passengers" page on e4's website and this is what I found out about the show:

"with a mix of gritty journalism and an investigative, cutting edge approach, Passengers delves into youth culture around the world."

and indeed there was a little list of things included in the show, one of the items being "Latino Morrissey devotees".

unfortunately it doesn't say anything else. so, I'm not sure if this item has already been included in a previous episode of "Passengers", or if it will be shown in an upcoming episode, or if "Passengers" is a new show, or a one-off show (I have never heard of it before).in any case, this week, "Passengers" will be shown on e4 on Thursday at 11.10pm.

An anonymous person also writes: Just to let you know, I saw a trailer for a new programme on E4 (satellite channel in the UK) called Passengers. It is on Thursday at 11.10 pm. The first item on the trailer featured a clip on Morrissey and "why so many of his fans are Mexican". Sounds like a similar article to LA Pool Party, but may be interesting to check out.

    I need to get Digital :-) Hopefully the I Love 1980s set of programmes will be coming on quite soon...I believe it was the 1983 show that The Smiths were on? Anyway, they briefly featured on the whole "I Love the 80s" programme on New Year's Eve, with Panic being played...

      Hey, remember me? I'm back from holiday at mum's (will post you a message, ok?)

      You're in luck anyway, I taped the aforesaid programme. It does seem to be pretty much the same storyline as the LA Pool party thing.

      Some Latino fans interviewed (namely Cynthia Sanchez & her mom, and Sarah Pedraza) explaining why they're Morrissey fans, and how he has influenced their lives (for the better).

      Narrator explains that because Morrissey doesn't do live appearances, fans have to make do with (yes, you got it) Sweet & Tender Hooligans. Cue Jose singing "Last of the Famous.." and giving a wee interview. Then on to Club London where there are some really scary looking characters, and Jose again dancing rather inconspiculously. He ends the interview with a comparison on LA thugs and Mancunian thugs and how they fall to their knees when they hear Morrissey sing.

      An interesting little piece, with Suedehead and Last of the Famous.. playing throughout. Almost worth the £30 monthly subscription alone.

        It was very, very similar to the LA Pool Party piece, with some of the same people interviewed. I thought it was slightly better, apart from the voice over introducing the piece with the phrase "Miserable Morrissey", some things never change.

        Favourite part was a girl's mother thanking Morrissey for saving her daughter from a life of crime, drug abuse etc.

        P.S Jaques, 'I Love 1984' is the one you want.

            There was a feature in Dazed and Confused (probably Oct/Nov edition) which I brought to the site's attention but it wasn't deemed newsworthy. Funny that!

            Yeah... interesting stuff. I knew the Hispanics liked Morrissey, but I didn't realise that 70-80% of his Los Angeles audience would be Mexican!

            As a Brit, this all really interests me. You LA inhabitants may find all this interest from the British media as puzzling, but The Smiths and Morrissey come from a very different backround to what you are used to. Dare I say, a grim backround. So, to see an almost tropical city's inhabitants like LA embrace 'our Moz' is incredible!

            I so want to come over now, after seeing the short piece on the show to check out this indie night - Club London (is that it's name?).

            Oh and to all those who didn't see it, don't worry. You didn't miss much. There was a marvelous bit where a girl's mother was thanking Morrissey (To the camera, not to his face!) for saving her daughter from going down the road to drugs and crime... which apparantly, until she discovered Morrissey, was were she was heading.

            All of this reminded me of when the SATH came over. Come on, come back!

              Damn it. I was watching Friends on Thursday around 5:45pm, and they showed this advert. Which immediately got my attention, of course. But I assumed they were just giving a general impression of the types of things that were on Passengers, rather than what was on that very evening.

              Oh well. I think my mother was watching something about Cher anyway.

                  Así es créanlo o no, Morrissey tiene muchos fans aquí en México: la prueba está que cuando vino al Auditorio Nacional había en este site una "pequeña guerra" respecto a que él venía al Distrito Federal y no a provincia. Otra prueba muy evidente estaba en unas fotos (mas de 100) que un fan puso en esta pagina de cuando Morrissey tuvo una especie de Meet & Greet en California cuando había sacado el DVD Oye, Esteban!, la mayoría de los que salian en las fotos eran mexicanos y no olviden también que en una entrevista que le hicieron en Salt Lake City él mismo no se explicaba cómo era que tantos mexicanos lo fueran a ver a EUA (la entrevista la leí también aquí).
                      Así que, Morrissey, deberías venir más seguido para México ya que aquí te queremos de una manera igual (o más) enfermiza que todos tus demás fans del resto del mundo.

                    Hispanics, English, Blacks, Asians, People that's all just people. 1992 is dead boys, umm, cats however seem very pleased by this lovely, lovely voice. Can we have a speacial on this matter, well nevermind, nevermind.
