There is an official MP3 download of 'This Charming Man' performed live by Sloan at the Indiepages site available (on the sounds page). It's taken from the Halifax show where they also did 'These Things Take Time' (try Audiogalaxy to find that one).

    HORRIBLE.
    HORRIBLE recording.
    HORRIBLE rendition.
    HORRIBLE voice.
And now, the rest of my year will be HORRIBLE trying to get that pointless cover out of my head.

Sloan add a new dimension to the word crap. I have had a deep seated hatred for that band ever since they first poisoned the airwaves back in 1992.

Just another crap band from Canada...

I am from Canada , and I agree totally with the above comments , it is a poor job they did covering Smiths songs. They also did a version of These Things Take Time, and it was really shitty and very pathetic.

        Sloan does suck bad.

Yes, it sounds like it was recorded on a K-Tel pocket studio and yes, its rough. Fer chrissake, these guys were like 20 when they did this (the same year they formed... the same year as Nevermind and Kill Uncle, incidentally). At least they have good taste in what they chose to cover.

Maybe they *were* searching for an identity. They were, after all a new band, but they certainly have found one now and, like it or not, have consistently produced new material (unlike you know who).

It wasn't good, but I'd rather listen to it than other not-meant-for-publication live covers like "Drive-in Saturday" or "Trash".

French? Read an Atlas, then comment.

If you have a 9-year "deep seated" hatred for a band, seek psychological help or at least substantiate your spite if you are trying to be helpful.
