Just seen a the promo sleeve for a new Smiths book by Kevin Cummins called 'The Smiths and Beyond. Images'
The sleeve shows Moz slumped across an amp on what looks to be the Kill Uncle Tour. The inner sleeve shows some pictures of The Smith and solo Moz (fairly standard ones it has to be said) and some post Smiths Marr.
The information says that it will be published in the UK on March 7th 2002. The publisher is Vision On Publishing, they are responsible for the magazine Dazed and Confused. No US publishing info is given, but a US distributor is listed. The cost will be £12.99 or $19.95.
The ISBN is 1 903399 27 0.
The sleeve notes state:
"When The Smiths emerged from Manchester in 1983, Kevin Cummins was ideally placed to record the group's progress. The former art and design student had been framing bands in his hometown from the late 70s. His portraits of the late Ian Curtis had helped immortalise him around the world.
"As far as local boy turned semi-tragic hero was concerned, Smiths singer Morrissey was Curtis' more flamboyant successor and as The Smiths turned into one of the great British bands of the 80s, bringing poetry, miserablism, celibacy chic and gladioli-waving to a grey post-punk music scene, it was entirely natural that Cummins would become one of their most intimate and astute visual chroniclers.
"Cummins did their publicity stills, shot countless features for the NME and other magazines, tracked their gigs and travelled the world with them." You can see more about Vision On at www.vobooks.com
Fingers crossed that this one actually manages to make it out of the publishers!!
