I did find the article a little patronising towards Morrissey's fans and the DJ but perhaps this is understandable when the author has worked with Fat Boy Slim and other "trendy" DJs.

I do think he was quite surprised that Morrissey can still attract a younger audience considering his lack of output in recent years, it's a pity that he didn't really express his admiration for Moz and his fans a little more.

Interestingly, he ends the article by saying that he returned to the Star and Garter around the time of Morrissey's birthday and he is now on the mailing list. I think the guy was semi-impressed with the evening but afraid to admit it - what would people think!

Well come on, not only is it in a seedy area, it's a bit of a red light area & I only know that because it's always fairly late when we leave the place & there are 'Ladies of the night' hanging about outside.
If you've been inside you'll also be able to varify it's hardly the Ritz, still I'll be there on the next Moz night.

Though having been to many, i would question his comments 'not many present would have seen The Smiths'. There are many of us 'oldies' attending who did see them.

After just reading this article the smiths nights in Manchester look really good, ive always wanted to go to one but have never been brave enough.Do lots of people go on there own? If i was to go it would be a case of having to none of my friends can understand why i love the Smiths and certainly wouldnt treck to manchester with me to go to a disco.

was what I thought of this article. people like dave haslam don't understand the joy that people have of singing along to their favourite song. the truly uplifting feeling when a fresh, original lyric is sung over a great piece of music; something that dance music simply cannot match.

all the criticisms he levelled at the morrissey night (it's effectively just a juke box) would have applied to any non-dance music night club where people go along to jump up and down, and sing along to their favourite song.

he criticised 'dave' or at least expressed surprise that there weren't any other styles of music. what in the lord's name do you expect when you go along to a evening billed as a morrissey/smiths night? what an absolute flipping idiot!

I dj'ed three Smiths nights in Leeds around 5 years ago, I'd love to do it again but there is a lack of venues who would be willing to put a night on. There is a night called "Strangeways" but they play far far far too much Belle and Sebastian for my liking.
