An article in the Manchester Evening News announces that the Salford Lads Club failed to get funding for renovation and should be demolished and rebuilt. Perhaps all the bricks removed as souvenirs by Smiths fans have weakened the structure. Read about it at: Battle to save legendary building Excerpt: Salford Lads Club -- a 97-year-old institution on the Ordsall Estate -- earned legendary status when 1980s cult band The Smiths used it for a photo shoot.

Wonder what Messrs Morrissey, Marr, Rourke and Joyce are thinking about the situation...Anybody think they should chip in a few quid to save it? Let's face it - none of them are hardly short of a few pound, are they?

So if enough interested fans e-mailed their support of this idea then the Manchester Evening News would have something to present to the lottery commission on the behalf of SLC. I have already done so and i hope others will. I just wish i'd made this appeal earlier as I fear most people will be finished reading this item now and the chance to keep one of the central pieces of our Smith heritage may slip away.
