"Honey, You Know Where To Find Me" (instrumental demo) - mp3 of the week
posted by davidt on Thursday August 02 2001, @09:00AM

Following the uncovering of the four unreleased tracks last week on the same site, Mrs. Shankly sends word that her site, Mrs. Shankly's mp3 of the week now has what is believed to be an instrumental demo of the song "Honey, You Know Where To Find Me" (from the rumored "Miraval sessions"). A brief summary from the page:
This is an instrumental demo of Honey, You Know Where to Find Me, by Alain Whyte. This was mentioned in Morrissey-solo back in February this year. I don't think it is a hoax, but then again I have no way to verify the authenticity of this track.

Thanks to Franck for sharing this track. Here is what Franck had to say on this demo, Where is it come from? In 1994, Alain White make a tape for Moz with new material for the future "southpaw LP". One of my best friend, worked with the band in Miraval (12/94) and Moz gave him the tape. Just for info, My friend said me Alain is a great man, a wonderful guitarist and ... one of his favorite song is "Pretty Girls Make Graves".
A photo of the band during the session from Franck is also included.

UPDATE (Dec. 11, 2001): Boz wrote in to say that "Honey, You Know Where To Find Me" is a real song, and he was the one who actually wrote it.

VERY interesting, but where's the melody? (Score:1)
I find this much more interesting than the unreleased tracks (which where pretty crappy, though interesting never the less). I have always wanted to get a glimpse of the creative process. How does Moz cooperate with the songwriters, what kind of material do they supplement him with, and so on??? Finally, if this is genuine, can we get an idea.

However, where's the melody!? This is just strumming chords! You cannot possibly build a song out of this, without doing a lot of songwriting yourself. You need a melody before you can write lyrics. Can there be another track where Alain has added suggestions for the melody? Maybe this is a "naked" track that Moz can use to try out his own singing? That is my guess.

I forgot to add that the guitar playing DOES match the chords written on the paper - which we saw a picture of moths ago. So if the paper is genuine, then the tape probably is too.

This is actually a song called "Plaid World" by a band called Truxo Leaper. It is the instrumental version that was the b-side to the single. It was only available as a German import. Funny how it is being passed off as a Morrissey song. Go figure. It came out in the early 90's and there full length was very similar to 80's Smith's style. Long out of print by now.
