I was reading Margaret Cho's book "I'm The One That I Want". On page 142, she mentions that she was waiting in a doctor's office and feeling uneasy. The doctor had an autographed head shot of Morrissey hung up on the wall. She wrote that as soon as she saw Morrissey's picture she immediately became comfortable.

Just thought I would share that.

    Dear Jim,

She did like my picture of Moz, I must say, it helped her relax throughout the procedure.

    Sincerly,

I have read this book... In this book, Margaret Cho (Korean-American progressive stand-up comedian) talks about her Korean-American childhood, her boyfriends, stand-up comedy business: good and bad sides, her short-lived autobio-based mainstream-channel show that failed 'cause it was creatively controlled by white corporate men (comedy-writers and producers) and not by Cho herself, as it was supposed to be.... Cho also talks about growing up in San Francisco with artistic sector of gay community playing a major part at her evolution as an artist, she talks honestly about her food and drug addictions, and how she had managed to beat them... Overall a good book... About her fave music... Besides Morrissey, she mentions Siouxie and Banshees and 'Avalon' album by Roxy music as groups who helped her to survive the teenage years... She explains her well-known fondness for gay men (as buddies, of course), 'cause both her and them being outsiders from the mainstream milk & sereal and white bread-fed America...

P.S. If you are living at LA, Koreantown at downtown LA (cross Wilshire and Pico) is a place to visit... Very pleasant shopping mall with exotic Korean foods and vegetables, Korean eateries (kimchi, barbeques meats, fish, and vegetarian foods), Korean artsy coffee-shops and bakeries etc.. Very pleasant, family-oriented subculture... In Korean community percentage of teenagers goin' to college is very high, so in 20 years or so community would be totally assimilated, but now still quite a few Koreans over 30 are more comfortable talking Korean then English... Margaret Cho is American born and raised, but she talks very fondly of her immigrant parents and their struggle to fit in and reconcile their own cultural mores and American reality... She critisizes herself, gay and straight males, her own Korean community for their conformity and acceptance of status quo (her short-lived show was not supported by other Koreans, who disliked absence of Korean actors on the set, so Amy may not be 100% right on this one), but not too harsh, she is not judgemental, 'live and let live' is her attitude in life...
